Bought myself a cool old lathe

These vintage lathes are great as they are built to last and are much heavier than similar ones built these days. As other have said ...safety ...safety ...safety ... always check the balance of the rotating piece at a lower speed and safe distance before just diving into cutting.

    craftsman 10inch drill press...

Again, I'm with zkling - I say skip this press and look for a used older 15"+ floor model Delta / Rockwell, etc. Even an older Craftsman from the 1950's or 1960's. With a bit of looking you should be able to get one in good condition for about $150.

    Your Preferential Brand?

I have sets from almost every manufacturer under the sun from Japanese (not Taiwan or China) all the way through Mac and Snap-On in my personal collection. I also sell all of these brands used in my store so I get a lot of feedback and Craftsman are by far the most popular sellers. If you are...

    craftsman 10inch drill press...

I agree with zkling... a guy selling a new in the sealed box drill press he bought 3 weeks ago for 1/2 what he paid when he can just return it for full price makes no sense. Although $75 is a fair price for it if it is really new and nothing wrong, I would skip on it based on Occam's razor -...

    So, how did I do?

$100 is a good deal on that - the stand alone is worth as much as the saw. Even $175 would be fair for an end-user price for that combo.

    Old PDF tool catalogue links,

Very True - at most of the estate auctions I go to out in the countryside, the only tools and machines a lot of guys had were Craftsman. As for prices, on benchtop and floor model machines, compare a late 1970's - early 1980's Craftsman catalog to what you can buy today for "comparable"...

Harbor Freight 20 ton press is changing - Major Changes - Info inside

I have had the welded HF 20 ton orange press for about 15 years with no issues. It has done everything I needed it to do. I think I only paid about $125 for it on sale back then so definitely no complaints.

Today's Cool Tool of the Day is another vintage storage solution, an AC Hot Tip Spark Plug cabinet. This one is just in and barn fresh so it's dirty and needs to be cleaned but it's still cool. If anyone can supply info on this particular design please share.
