Notching a foundation wall for a door? Most likely a stupid question.

Rough calculation is about 16 feet from back door around the corner to side door. I don’t see the need take it out fill the siding and sell the door to recoup some of the cost.

GJ riggers: How can I move this mill?

I moved and old Delta drill press about 350 pounds and 6’ tall. The auction house got it to my truck I had to tip it on it‘s back and slide it in. I used a few 2x4’s to stabilize it and straps so it wouldn’t tip. Most equipment auctions will have a forklift, the auction house I use will load on...

Help me before I get hurt. Need to replace the weather stripping on the garage door...

How wide a door 8’ or 16’, some of those panels are heavy? You could open the door and unbolt the section and angle it out of the track. Since it is lighter but already open it won’t try to fly open.

New building: have builder put in mini splits or wait?

You could pre-wire for future install, 4/18K units sounds like 1 too many but I'm comparing that to my shop. The problem with doing minimal to heat a space is the unit(s) is always trying to get there ( heat the place) but just can't. You end up not having a very efficient system. The other...

    Siding thoughts, please.

The studs are a different R value than the rest of the wall (Thermal Bridging). This can cause temperature difference and morning dew to stay longer on the studs attracting more dust and discoloring the siding. The other concern is the **** joints don't seem to be done well, not enough gap which...

Metal Ceiling with 9'8" OC roof joists

2X6 at 24" on center spanning 9'8" on Simpson LU26 hangers is fine. The bigger question is what is the bottom cord dead load on your current trusses? Is it rated for the load of ceiling joists, metal or other ceiling material and blow in insulation. Most are 5psi BCDL and that should be good for...

When are inexpensive tools "good enough"?

What is the "Crayon Trick"? Ok I searched it and as I thought you rub a crayon of contrasting color on the tool. Cool.

    I NEED A 56,000 CFM CEILING FAN WITH A 56" BLADE

I'm thinking there might be a typo, one too many zero's? Maybe it was 5600cfm? Looking at some Big *** fan specs 7880 CFM, 60" blade span, 22 watts 120v, wind speed is 3.55MPH. The thing you are describing sounds like a prop on a Cessna. Do you have a picture of the old label?

    Scrap habits

I feel your pain. I have been a General Contractor, Carpenter, furniture maker for 40+ years and always hang on to stuff for that next project. Some of it might be 1 1/2"x1 1/2"x6" exotic wood that I'm sure I will use "someday". So now anything less than 24" common species get burnt or...

Is Makita still at the top?

When I started in contracting many years ago I had a Panasonic drill best drill I used for a long time. Then the Makita 9.6v, now Makita 18v LXT. I have never had anything break or stop working other than the batteries. Recently just bought another impact and drill set Makita, mainly to keep...
