I have electric stairs. I hit a button the hatch opens and the stairs telescope out. No it was not my idea, I would never pay that much for them. They came with the house, they are neat, though. Here is one brand https://majicstairsinc.com/. Perhaps you can get some ideas from this.

It is rubber wood, common in Asian furniture. It is usually stained dark but it is blond unstained. Hardwood because it is deciduous meaning it comes from a tree that loses its leaves, in fact it is fairly easy to dent.

Substitute "tools" for "drills" and the responses would be vastly different. Yes good bits are worth it.
