When these sold originally was the base always optional ?

I was trying to wait until I had pictures, but I got a Craftsman branded Darra James table saw at a garage sale. When I seached for it this forum came up. It's still in pieces and I need to make 2 parts for it on my lathe, but the arbor seems fine. I'll post pics when I get them.
