    Insulated Concrete Slab?

What was their rational for calling you crazy? Also curious, I've spent time in Fort Nelson, FSJ, and PG, when you say central, do you actually mean central, or a Vancouver "central", so like Kelowna? There are many buildings built in northern climates on shallow footings and traditional frost...

    Concrete Bar Top

I built a concrete topped desk. Haven't used them yet, but bought a polisher and pads and from what I read, would easily remove those scratches. I've read I actually need to go easy so I don't expose the aggregate.

    Hanging Pictures in Garage

I'd just use a security hanger, similar to that in hotel rooms. Hardware isn't visible and costs dollars, depending on which system you use.

Parking Travel Trailer Next To Stone Retaining Wall?

Just for reference, a human standing on one foot is approximately 80 kPa while 454 kg (1,000 lb/tire) parked on a 0.61 m x 0.61 m (24"x24") cement patio block transmits approx. 12.5 kPa to the ground.

    Concrete Desktop with Wood Insert

Good evening guys. Been awhile since I've posted, anyways... I'm in process of making a desk with a concrete top with a permanent oak insert. The plan is for a 30"x66"x2.25" top with a 1"x6'x1" running lengthwise about 8" from the back. Any thoughts on finishing the wood prior to pouring the...

White vs brown gutter cost. Get real

If its a custom color or a special order, its obviously going to be more money. Probably doesn't help that the order is likely quite small. I'd price check elsewhere, likely alot cheaper if its something someone has in stock.

Proctor Compaction Testing of Sub-Grade Material

A proctor every 12 tests?!? :yikes:

Proctor Compaction Testing of Sub-Grade Material

Just so you know, generally, a test of 94%, regardless of what your structural engineer said, isn't "good". Typical specifications in my part of the country are as follows: -Narrow trenches for utilities: 95%; -Top 1' of subgrade: 98%; -Sub-base: 98% -Base, for concrete surface: 98%; and, -Base...

    Finally pulled the trigger

Congratulations on your purchase! I'm curious as to why you didn't strip the topsoil/organics and level the site before building though? It probably would have saved you alot of time and money as the cut on the one side of the building could possibility have been used as fill on the other with...

Built this setup for my dads shop. Thought I'd see what you guys think.

Look really good. That would be one expensive bench were I live though. I was at an auction on Sunday, and old soda boxes like that were selling for $75+, you've got 16, that's around $1,200 just for the drawers.

    Ideas for heat "curtain"

Not sure what your budget is or how big your shop is, but a garage door, spanning from front to back would work very well. It would be efficient, would roll out of the way in the summer, and when not in use, the footprint would be very small, just a couple tracks on the front and back wall.

Attaching dream garage to a house

I personally prefer detached. I've got little kids that go to bed early and running a saw/grinder/compressor/etc. would not go over well. As I've got kids, most of the time I spend out there is when they are sleeping.

    Husky Boxes/Chest, Canadian Home Depot

For any Canadians out there (who can't get the HF Chest), Home Depot seems to have some pretty good deals on right now. For $300.00 http://www.homedepot.ca/product/husky-40-inch-w-10-drawer-tool-chest-cabinet-set/856461 Or for $278.00 I know that is the .com site but I saw them in a Canadian...

    44 Bikes Frame Shop

Whats the cable/hose for? Does it pressurize the inside of the frame for welding purposes? I've never seen that before.

Can I Frame New Wall Directly on Garage Slab?

Its possible, but why would the designer make an interior wall load bearing when there is an exterior, fou dation supported wall 3' away? You'll likely have to post a lot of photos for it to make sense. As for the garage, is it a structurally supported slab or slab on grade? If its slab on grade...
