    Sump Pump Back up systems

Basepump.com Had installed for about 2 years now. No issues, straight forward install. Utilizes a ball float, similar to the one for a toilet, to turn on/off. If there is only one pit, might not fit with the primary pump also. Just something to think about. Problem I see with battery back up...

Framing Experts - How would you handle this?

What's your measurement from wall to side of pipe? My basement is similar and I just finished framing all the walls with 1-5/8" metal studs. With 1/2" drywall puts you at 2-1/8". I'll be spraying my ceiling black, I don't like drop ceilings, and it's cheaper.

    Sump pumps

^ Definitely do this. Battery sumps are useless. Main problem is lack of maintenance on the owners part. Battery has to be replaced every so often. If city loses water pressure, there's bigger problems at stake than. Basepump.com Easy install, no batteries, "maintenance free". I test mine...

    Supporting A Crawl Space

Glue and screw 2x10 to each joist. You don't need to do the entire length, just 80%. What this does is minimize the deflection of the floor. What "vibrates" in the room? Do you have hardwood flooring? That could be the cause of noise from echoes.

    Supporting A Crawl Space

My last house was just like that. I sistered all the joists to stiffen it up. Very noticeable when done. My reason was to lay tile tho.

    Water Softeners

Softeners use tiny resin beads that attract the calcium ions in water. The brine (salt/water) clean the resin beads during a regeneration, so you have constant soft water. Very minimal maintenance on softeners. Resin can last several years, its a contained system.

    Raise Garage Heigh

My garage was drywalled, so I cut away the bottom 30". That way i could pre build my new 18" walls with the same stud centers. Once the garage was high enuff, toss in new walls, nail, and done. I'm not trying to say sistering is wrong, just that its time consuming while the garage is in the air...

    Raise Garage Heigh

I did what Ainsley posted in the pictures. Nailed a 2x6 to every stud and diagonal braced all four walls. Used a High-Lift/ farm jack to lift entire structure. Use cribbing as you lift. There is an old thread on here about using osb to bridge the new wall to the old. For the anchor bolts, i...
