    Cornwell "Grip Latch"? Repair

Shot in the dark just because nobody else has responded. I've never owned a Cornwell box and am not familiar with how their grip-latch system works. How big are the parts you're trying to clean? Ultrasonic cleaning is my go-to method for anything that's covered in a sticky substance and/or...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

No HF store in my area has the end cabinets or side lockers in stock either. I'm hoping they're simply re-designing them as some are speculating, but part of me wonders if they're quietly discontinuing them. Outside of this forum, I've seen relatively few of them being used amongst...

Jack Stand Vs Drive On Mini Ramp?

I prefer ramps when it's feasible to use them. But remember that you can't do brakes, suspension work, or other stuff (like bleed a power steering system) without jack stands. I've also found that ramps can't always accommodate the low ground clearance of many late-model vehicles.

New Toolbox Time -- What would you Choose?

I never represented myself an an expert on this subject. I simply suggested that those who actively use a tool chest in a commercial environment may have a better qualified perspective that those who do so in a residential setting. And unlike some others, I don't praise/trash/comment about...

New Toolbox Time -- What would you Choose?

This was my point. You've made a number of assertive claims in this thread and others that are questionable or outright wrong. Sounds like you're a white-collar worker by day, have some old tool boxes in your home garage, and haven't personally used one to carry out your job duties in well over...

New Toolbox Time -- What would you Choose?

I think it's a lousy comparison too. I'd also question whether anyone using the terms "pro box" and "garage space" in the same paragraph (while making several other outlandish claims) has any direct experience using a tool box in a professional environment. Sounds more like the words of a casual...

    Harbor Freight "brand name" tools

I bought a 3/8" ICON ratchet last time they went on sale. After using it for a week, I went back and bought the 1/4" and 1/2" versions. Are they 100% as good as my Snap-ons? No. But I wouldn't hesitate to call them 90% as good...while being around 75% cheaper. For power tools I've always stuck...

Tool Carts Safe for Vegas Desert Heat Storage?

Where I live, it is almost standard for apartments to have a storage closet off the patio/deck. Once of my first places (still miss the simplicity of apartment life sometimes) had one that was big enough to fit a small roller cabinet, cart, etc, with room to spare. But it still got very hot in...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

I hope I'm not taking this thread too far off-topic -- but I went and took another look at the 36" ICON earlier today. Turns out the drawer slides are made by Repon - well-established manufacturer out of Taiwan whose products appear to be sold all over the internet (including Amazon). So even if...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

I live in a large metropolitan area, follow the used market for tools & boxes fairly closely, and only ever see two kinds of truck-brand boxes being sold: 1) Seller gave up the business, and has a box in good condition that he still owes money on. Will only sell it for a price equal to the loan...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

While I agree completely with most of what you said (and have had a similar experience with my USG box so far), as an owner/user of both brands, I do think Kennedy makes a quality product and frankly have more respect for them than any other manufacturer. They build their boxes here in the US...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

My intention is not to "hijack" this thread, but I'm (legitimately - not sarcastically) curious what Craftsman models you're referring to. I've had Craftsman boxes in the past, and felt good about owning them as the factory (which truly belongs to Waterloo) is only about an hour away from where...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

I've never seen one of those carts in a shop setting, but go to the same car wash every week who keeps their detailing supplies in one. Someone is always rolling it around whenever I pull out of the wash bay and they've had the same one for at least 18 months. The chrome finish on the US General...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

As someone else pointed out, the industrial setting is not what those US General boxes are designed for (that's Kennedy's market, and their stuff costs more for a reason) - but it still sounds to me like your employer got more than their money's worth out of them. I just replaced my Snap-On box...

    Snap On side cabinet question

Thanks for the additional responses -- tells me what I needed to know. Still surprises me that SO doesn't have an official specification for this, but I'm not an engineer and seems its become a moot point anyway. I'll be sure and provide an update once I get this upgrade completed one way or...
