    Driveway stone and geo fabric

Fabric is typically used for separation between soil and stone. It keeps the stone from sinking into soil and becoming "lost". I would think that if you have a good stone base, you shouldn't need the fabric. If you choose to use fabric, get good quality fabric from a contractor's supply store...

    Two post lift - plumbness

How plumb does a two post assymetric lift need to be? How critical is it to be perfect? I bought a used lift which did not come with shims. I anchored it down without shims to check for plumb. One post may be out 1/2"-3/4" or so from top to bottom. Does anyone see why this would be...

    Built-In Workbench or Not?

One of my benches in my old garage was made with treated 2-bys on the top and it was screwed into the wall. It had an open shelf like you and when I was beating and banging, the were always cans of Wd-40 or whatever falling on my head. It really irritated me.

$20 Kobalt 10-Piece Pliers & Wrench Tool Set

I do understand the value of quality...my point is, why are some people so quick to blast someone about a set of tools they just bought because they are not the best out there. The OP was showing us the tool set he bought and letting the forum know they are on sale, not asking about their...

$20 Kobalt 10-Piece Pliers & Wrench Tool Set

Thanks for letting the forum know about this deal. I think it is sad that someone posts about new tools they just purchased and gets blasted for not buying "top of the line" or "american made" stuff. Not everyone has to own the best of the best. I have turned a lot of bolts in my life with...

    Welding Table Build

A neighbor of my dad has a machine/fab shop. He had it laying around as leftovers from another project. He cut it out and radiused the corners with his torch table. It was around $130 for the top.

    Welding Table Build

Thanks guys for all the advice. I realize it is big metal for my machine, but I dont have a bigger machine or a stick welder and am trying to make do with what I have. I took my time on the welds and I think I got them burned in pretty well, welded both sides of the channel, single passes. I...

    Welding Table Build

I started building a welding table for my garage. The top is approximately 23"x48" and 1" thick. The legs are made of 3"x5" angle that I had laying around. I have welded 3/8" thick pads on the bottom of the legs. The legs are tacked into place and I hope to finish the welding this evening...

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

I have had decent luck with the flux core wire. I am not a very experienced welder by any means, just a hobbyist who likes to tinker. I have used several spools of the HF flux core and solid mig wire, various sizes, and can say I've had no problem with it. I can't say it is good as a "name...

    Cooper/Metalux T8 Fixtures

I thought I should update this post. I have had these fixtures in several weeks now. They are still performing well, however I can notice some RFI interfering with some of the radio stations. No big deal to me because the few stations that I listen to still come in loud and clear.

    Cooper/Metalux T8 Fixtures

I bought 10 of the 8' long, four bulb T8 fixtures made by Cooper/Metalux. I bought them at Lowe's for around 40 bucks each. I have installed 9 of them so far in my 28'x32' garage with 12.5' ceiling height. I used the 4100k bulbs. Six of them are on one swith and four on another switch. The...
