    Restored Craftsman Machinist Box

You mean mine? Occasionally yes. The two pictured are already spoken for, the Craftsman was a commission by a customer. If you have one you might want to spiff up a bit, we can talk. You can contact me at [email protected]

    Restored Craftsman Machinist Box

Probably about $250 on a good day. Better pictures would help.

    Restored Craftsman Machinist Box

They include a label in the kit, which has pretty much everything you need: green felt, hardware (except a handle) and some sketchy instructions. One thing, tho', almost all of the wood supplied -- except for the drawer sides and bottoms is 1/2" thick. Makes for a very weighty box. And it's...

    Restored Craftsman Machinist Box

You're absolutely correct. The one on the right is a brand new Gerstner "kit box" which I came across in one of those "manly men" catalogs and had to try. The Craftsman box in this particular shot is still lacking some of it's hardware and hopefully you have enough time to wade in and see it...

    TXinkman Does it Again...

I seldom respond to any comments about my boxes, but your comment in particular intriques me. I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say, "It's clearly not been restored." You want to elaborate on that?

    TxInkMan Does Another

Txinkman's wife here. I just opened the jewelry box and find it beautiful. I am not the type of woman who would display a pink Coach jewelry box with ballerinas and flowers on it, but am definitely the type of woman who will cherish a gorgeous piece of work her husband spent months making. In...

And somehow this is relevent? Where's the cutoff? Indoor plumbing? Electric lighting? Or that Internet thing you seem to be hooked up to.

    Tool Box Restoration

In both cases my boxes came already covered in the letherette still in fairly decent shape and I just reglued, redyed and spiffed them up with black shoe polish. Gerstner still sells black leatherette. Not cheap at $50.00 for a 48" x 2 and a half yard roll, plus $15 for shipping...

    Tool Box Restoration

Re: Tool Box Restoration "Patina" Seems that every time one of my boxes lands on the web there's always comments on how I've committed the ultimate sin -- the cries of "I've got a rope!" from somewhere in the mob echo in the background -- of altering the "patina" (I'm beginning not to like that...
