    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

Thomas, As with all significant projects; the last 20% of the items on the punch list seem to take 80% of the effort. Hang in there, you and Chris are doing great work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thomas, With your aviation background; I'm curious as to what your morning "walk-around" and safety check-list looks like on this project.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

Re: GUS Update Thanks for the tip on "Freeze-Off". I know about Kroil (www.kanolabs.com) and utilize it a lot (as everything I work on is rusty). But hadn't combined it with "Freeze-Off". "Freeze-Off" is on the shopping list for the next run to town.

    PPGS Revisited

So having all the parts kitted up, the day was selected to put the rest of the PPGS fleet together. The handles had been formed by cutting the ends off the tire irons, and using a torch to heat and bend the handles to spec. The kick bar was made from some 1" od, 12 gauge tube available from the...

    PPGS Revisited

Three sets of base components were cut and prepared. A jig was created for drilling the holes in the caster mounting plates. This is definitely a place where you need to measure multiple times before committing. If you are right, the work is going to go fast. If you are off a bit, the...

    PPGS Revisited

Next I cut a set of caster mounting plates and the mounting plate gussets from 3/8" by 3" wide plate. These were TIGged onto the base. The edge of each mounting plate is 1/2" in from the end of the leg. On this, our prototype, unit I was unsure where the mounting plate should be place...

    PPGS Revisited

Now, how to attach the feet to the legs. The feet were obtained from McMaster-Carr. The one on the left matches what Thomas used on his build. Here is the link: http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/120/1385/=va3zsz Part Number 60855K76, currently $3.23 each. I was also interested in trying out...

    PPGS Revisited

So the first step was to build the three legged base, to see if there is match between the plans and reality. I have a used metal band saw: And cutting the ends of the legs that meet in the middle, was straightforward. But what to do about the drastic angle on the end that sits on the...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

Thomas, As we discussed, I got the "PPGS Revisited" thread started: And BTW, I have a new appreciation of the effort it takes you and Chris to record, edit, and post all these pictures and information. 8-) http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4510049#post4510049 Tim

    PPGS Revisited

A while back, over on the "Restored 1930's Auto Shop" thread, Thomas showed how he created a Portable Pedestal Grinding Stand (PPGS). http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51567&page=277 I was needing a solution for my use and ask Thomas to send me some details. I already had...

    Floor mount air hose reel

Thanks for the input. Some background: Ceiling location where I want the air source is 12' up, and I would also have interference from one track/rail of the garage door. My shop is a SIP building (Structured Insulated Panels). SIPs are strong enough for many things hanging on it. Plus I...

Does anyone have experience with mounting an air hose reel to the floor? Did it work well? Advantages/disadvantages?

    Pik.A.Nut

At a garage sale a couple weekends ago, I picked up this Pik.A.Nut shelf with a partial set of old boxes. I'm working to source a new set of boxes that I would use to store my nuts, bolts, fastners, clips, etc. Has anyone else created replacement Pik.A.Nut boxes. If not, I'm considering...
