Things worth knowing about each power tool brand and their ecosystems

I’ve been frustrated by Milwaukee’s triggers and internals dying on tools I use infrequently. I have had a fuel drilll, impact driver and 6 1/2 saw all **** out and parts cannoning triggers at them did not repair them. The drill was an acceptable loss as it was on of my original tools and had a...

I decided to switch all my cordless tools to Hercules

I have some Milwaukee and Makita 18 volt with a side of Milwaukee 12 volt. I just can’t see paying big brand money for some of these tools. Hoping the sale on Hercules batteries comes around soon as I have a few wants, Impact driver for the garage so my Milwaukee can stay in the house kit...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Breaking out of my self-imposed prison

I admire your progress. We moved about year and a half ago and I have been chipping away at 100’s of things to get organized. Looking at the last bay with the trailer I see so many tools and other stuff unhomed. I must have two dozen milk crates with oils, lube, sprays, etc. They stack nice and...

Going from late year Craftsman sockets to…

I’m in the same boat with 90’s and up craftsman sockets. While I have added Sunex and Tekton impacts, I only feel the need to replace sockets that there would be an obvious advantage. I always found that the sockets, being what they were were often good enough for the general work I did over the...

    Oscillating saw blades

I have had luck with DeWalt and Milwaukee OMT blades meant for nail embedded wood. The short stroke of an OMT does mean they are not lifetime use, and depending on how much room you have to work they may only last a cut or two so buy a multi pack. I used a Milwaukee one last night as a last...

Pliers for Electrical Cable Clamp Removal?

Steck has these clip pliers I have used for years.

1 1/2hp Shaper vs Router Table

I had a smaller Jet that worked well as both, table size was a bit limiting, but otherwise worked ok. I don’t seem to use a router table much at home, at least with my current work. That said, I have an older 1 1/2 hp delta without a router collet and it works great for cope and stick, and the...

    6.5" vs 7.25" circ saw

I always found the blade right 6 1/2 saws to be easier for me to cut panel goods. Blade left always seems to have me wander out to the right when I tried to cut a long sheet. Now I have a 6 1/2 inch Milwaukee fuel and a 7 1/4 Makita cordless along with my full compliment of old-school corded...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Breaking out of my self-imposed prison

It looks like a nice space, I think my biggest concern beyond organizing all the contents would be a plan for the floor, even if it’s just plywood for now. Then you can wait for a nice day and start pulling things out and organizing it into groups. Really cool setup with the size and door...

Cutting thin (25 - 20ga) sheet metal with table saw & abrasive cutting wheel...thoughts?

It would not have been my first choice but since you already did the deed… I’d blow the saw out good with compressed air, maybe brush any internals with slag or grit, shoot in some spray lube and move on. In the future I’d probably rig something else up, but otherwise I'm sure you are fine.

I am going broke buying duplicates of tools

How do you store the tools you have now? I have similar issues but i don’t seem to lose tools like you describe. I do have space specific toolsets, like I keep an SK 3/8 master set in the house garage, with most of my Milwaukee construction tools, in Ridgid boxes so they can go wherever needed...

(Solved = F clamp with V-block) Looking for clamp to hold pipe and rectangular bar

Couldn’t you make or purchase another v block for the clamp? Have a tablesaw or know anyone who does and a block of wood solves the problem.

    Tekton Auto wire stripper

I was interested but not sure what the pro model gets me that the $36 one wouldn’t do. The biggest wire I work on is probably 10 or 12 gauge, it’s funny I went to add the regular number five to my Amazon list and it’s already there from the last time we had a thread on these.

Metal cutting OMT Blades that will hold up

I used the OMT to cut nails behind molding where there wasn’t enough room to pry the nail out without wall damage. In your use case I’d be cutting the screws closer to the head, rather than as they penetrate the siding. The thread already has some good ideas, but in any event I’d be burying the...

Metal cutting OMT Blades that will hold up

While I have used an OMT to cut nails and some metal on occasion I find that the blades do not have great longevity compared to other styles of metal cutting blades. I have had success with DeWalt bimetal blades, and some imperial/Milwaukee ones. I do have some Milwaukee Nitrous or whatever...
