Duro drill press - help with restoration

Thanks Brian! So I played more with the quill lock. I found that if I pull out the little knob I'm able to turn the large knob more. More playing with it showed that it seems to be tensioning the up/down motion of the drill press. If I let it turn too much clockwise (I think) there is no tension...

Duro drill press - help with restoration

I just received a duro drill press. Model WWS3081. I think it's about old enough to qualify for medicare, but I don't see a date on it. So - questions: 1. On the right side of the drill press there is a lever for the press actuation. Opposite the drill on the left side of it there is a large...

That has been accomplished for sure!

What does a fractional bandsaw blade TPI mean?

Ah - that's interesting. What does that accomplish?

What does a fractional bandsaw blade TPI mean?

Hi - I know what TPI means - the question is what does a TPI rating mean when it's a fraction. So the example I gave is 10/14 - is that actually .71 teeth per inch, or does it have a different meaning?

What does a fractional bandsaw blade TPI mean?

I need to get some new blades for a portaband. Dewalt lists a pile of blades here. The confusing thing to me is that while some list a integer TPI (say 14 TPI) others list a fraction (10/14). Does that mean that that is actually .71 TPI? Or does it have an entirely different meaning? Thank you!

Who makes the most reliable pneumatic framing nail guns?

Sounds like Hitachi is a clear favorite in this thread for framing nailers. But nobody makes a decent smaller nail gun? A new one every two years is terrible... Aren't most nail guns user serviceable?

Who makes the most reliable pneumatic framing nail guns?

I need to pick up some nail guns. Looking to get at least a framing nail gun, but probably a couple smaller guns for trim work as well. I hear a lot about what was good 20 years ago - but it's unclear which manufacturers are still making worthwhile products these days. I've heard that Hitachi...

Can't get new blade tight in 50s B&D circular saw

Yeah it's unclear if the bolt is bottoming out or if the washer is bottoming out. I tried making a plastic washer out of the case that the new blade came in. That so far is working pretty good but it doesn't give me warm fuzzies. I'll try picking up some metal washers as well as shorter bolts...

Can't get new blade tight in 50s B&D circular saw

My dad recently gifted me his dad's circular saw - a Black and Decker #73 from the 1950s (I think). The blade on it was pretty ancient but the saw is in otherwise good condition. After pretty liberal application of penetrating oil I finally got the old blade loose. But now I'm finding that I...

    Was SK always American made?

Got it. So are all the smooth looking SK wrenches the same ("superchrome"), or are there some that are better?

    Was SK always American made?

OK one more question on SK combo wrenches. Some of them look just like vintage Craftsman wrenches. Others look more like SK's modern offerings. This suggests that the Craftsman wrenches that look like that were actually made by SK? Any preference between the old raised/Craftsman style and the...

    Was SK always American made?

Specifically I want combination wrenches. Were those ever made in Asia? Western Europe is OK with me... For example - some SK wrenches say "USA" on them but some don't.

    Was SK always American made?

I was thinking about picking up some SK wrenches. I want to ensure they're American made, however. Didn't SK ship production overseas at some point? I understand they're all American made now - but aren't there some non American SK tools out there as well from a few years back? If so - how do...

    Suggest a good bench grinder?

Maybe variable speed just isn't important? I don't have a ton of grinder experience so it's possible that is not something I need? I do see that some modern grinders have it.
