That is the most reasonable explanation. Anything under load drawing that much power is dangerous - your body can easily become the conductor.

I was not able to reply to the other poster below, but I have had good luck with Nibco copper fittings. I don’t know if they are all made here, but bagged fittings I have purchased are, and larger loose fittings have, “USA,” stamped into them.
Also, I made the mistake of soaking some cast iron parts in Vinegar after it was praised as a cure-all on another forum. Vinegar will soften cast iron as it is a reactant.
Next time I will use lye.
Vinegar works well, but Evap-O-Rust has worked even better, with no flash rust after a long soak.
It can discolor some tool steel, if that is a concern, FYI.
