The other identical set that came with this set has this metallic sticker on it that reads 3-year guarantee and plierench company of America. Perhaps this helps date it? Not many of that sticker exist either. My guess is that after going on the cheap with only a 3 year guarantee on this design...
I saw a youtube video of a guy restoring an earlier set with all the fancy stampings and embossing. He did quite an amazing job! But he also had a set like mine only without the locking nut and it was identical down to the handle covers. Same thick red rubbery handles. His he said were from...
Thanks for the insights!
I suspect you're correct in that it's a modification but I'm leaning more towards manufacturers modification because it's too perfectly made, right down to the plating. The handle covers will not budge in the slightest so I don't want to ruin it by forcing it off...
I swear I constantly come across unidentifiable tools! Yep this plierench is like the majority in design but with an added feature that I can not find anywhere online or in their catalogs at least so far. It appears the added feature is to lock the handle in place? I dunno, anyone ever seen one...
I figured it out! The wedge die fits into the upper hole from underneath and is pressed down onto various sized round stock. Drop in the fitted knurled bushing from the top and the little disc thing holds the bushing in place from spinning. Then set it up on your drill press and you can drill a...

Any ideas how these go together or what it's all for? Can't find another set like it online. The knurled bits are common but the press and three inserts and how it all goes or works together are a mystery to me!
Upon closer examination I do see a couple welding pock marks around the base of the hammer section which would indicate these were modified. I should check closer on these things before I list! Oh well, still a neat tool though!
