I have a older Backyard Buddy lift and I need to know how to reinstall the check valve. Does the check valve Ball or Spring go in first before the cap? Should I tape the release handle down to relieve hydraulic pressure?

I have a older Backyard Buddy 7000lbs lift and I need to know how to reinstall the check valve. Does the check valve Ball or Spring go in first before the cap? Should I tape the release handle down to relieve hydraulic pressure? Thanks
