Thank you Ycgoat :) By "tap the power feed to the gate", do you mean the 230v or the 24v ? That's what I wanted to do at first (tapping the 24v), but then I was told the amperage of the lights (approx 2 / 2,5amps) might conflict with the power of the gate motors.
