    Plug in Solar - Virginia

There’s a certain dorky cool factor to having a solar array, even if it’s a single diy panel. My boss is very pro environment and wants to find a way to charge his ev with the power from his solar array. He will incur expense to store the power off grid and then use that to charge his car and...

    Quality Dremel Style Tool?

Dremel came out with a different type of cutting disc and mandrel a few years ago. Instead of the simple disc with a hole that you ran a screw through and into the mandrel, it was a twist lock sort of attachment. https://www.dremel.com/us/en/mkt/ez-lock-page the discs worked way better than the...

A new playset for the kids

Ok, a few thoughts… 1. Really cool. This is what we should use the internet for. 2. Only one color? Seriously! What is this amateur hour? 3. Stop already. You’re making the rest of us look bad. 4. My son might want you to adopt him. I might want you to adopt me.

You won’t get that after putting up a metal shed. its time consuming, its confusing at time its hard work. the satisfaction doesn’t come afterwards. i was warned not to buy...

Do I need a push mower with a zero turn mower?

Looks like I’ll need to mow again tomorrow. my son has a scout event, so I’ll be doing it on my own and I can listen for and maybe narrow down the noise. I’ve been going down the rabbit hole of looking at robotic mowers. I’m trying to find the downside. for a unit size to mow about 0.75 acre...

Do I need a push mower with a zero turn mower?

I‘m leaning towards electric, especially for a replacement walk behind if I decide to keep the Cub cadet going. The Honda has been very reliable, although, it’s not seen a lot of use in the last 10 years as it’s only used for trimming around the edges where the Cub cadet cannot reach. Ive done...

    Matco triple bay. Bought it!

Make sure you remind him how far you had to drive as a negotiating point. As if somehow it got farther away after you left home. That’s what I get most frequently. . if it’s bigger than you expected, feel free to drop it off at my house. I’ll store it for you, no charge.

    Preemptive heat pump replacement?

I’ve got a Bryant 2.5 ton heat pump at my rental house, in central Virginia. It was installed in 2009. The only problem it’s had was related to a faulty condensate line float switch. The switch would make intermittent contact, but basically it opened, which interrupted the control circuit that...

Question about why helicoils don't fail...

Since we’re on the helicoil topic, I’ll pose a question a former coworker asked me. If you were pulling a head and had to helicoil one hole, would you do all the head bolts? The patient is a high mileage 02ish Camry with a 4 cylinder. would your answer change if I said it needed 2? What about...

cordless tools set recommendation - drill, impact driver, oscillating tool?

congrats on your m18 tools. I’ve used them. They are really nice. They feel good in the hand. They are, powerful. They are lighter than other brands. im a ridgid fan for my own tools at home and for the tools I bought for the lab in my previous job. They are plenty strong and the lifetime...

How would you bend this aluminum iMac stand back to 90 degrees?

my gut tells me that’s not going to end well. Other than that, my first thought is heat it in the kitchen oven so the entire thing is heated evenly, then use a small torch to heat up a small area where you’ll be bending. my second thought is maybe use it as is, and add some sort of bracket or...

    Water heater timer wasting electricity?

When I was a young single man living in South Georgia, I had one of these. I would even turn off the water heater in the summer to save on my electric bill. I always showered in the morning, so i was able to save a lot by only having the water heater on when I really needed it.
