Long Handle Ratchets (1/2" or 3/8"?) / Narrowing Down to One Choice

If you're worried about having room to swing a long-handled 1/2" ratchet, do what i did and get the Gearwrench 120XP. I've leaned on it pretty good and it seems plenty strong for me. I still have a short-handled Craftsman 1/2" ratchet i can put a pipe on if i need to break something loose...

HF pro ratchets or GW 120xps for home use.

I have an HF Pro and GW 120XP both in long handle flex head. My main problems with them are that the HF flex head got floppy and the design of the bolt and yoke does not present an easy way to tighten it back up, and with the GW 120XP that the flex head has detents which i don't like but will...

Is there any point for the "rotational ratchet" ?

I actually haven't bought a replacement yet. For a while i was holding out for a Blue Point version of the tool mostly because of the skinny handle, but even that wasn't ideal because the head was still bulky. Excellent, thanks! I like the push-through idea to save space. You're correct. I...

Is there any point for the "rotational ratchet" ?

I think what people always fail to realize about this style of ratchet is that it basically has an infinite tooth count. Got a tiny swing arc? Push the handle as far as you can swing it. Normal ratchet doesn't click there? Just twist the handle of this ratchet until the slack is gone from the...

    Powerprobe IV

I got a chance to play around with a PP4 for a couple hours when one of my students brought one in and asked if i could show him what he was supposed to be doing with it. Overall it's a very impressive tool and i would recommend buying it IF one already had a good meter and knew how...

    Small car jack?

I own 2 of the small HF aluminum jacks. One of them is at least 5 years old and still works. The only failure i've had is that the older one has a sticking piston which i mostly attribute to operating in dirty/dusty environments. I really have no complaints. The 27lb weight is very friendly to...

    Gen I Ryobi 18v +1 impact ??

I still use my blue 1/4" hex ryobi impact on a daily basis. It has seen some pretty hard tumbles and has never even hinted at giving up. If you can find one for cheap, snag it. The newer ones might be slightly more powerful but for what i use it for it's never been an issue.

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

I have had one for about two years now and it's the best jack i've ever used. I say that as someone who has a propensity to lower cars until they become a pain to jack up. Or so i thought. I haven't worked on anything this jack won't slide right under and jack all the way up in one attempt.

    Ring Nose/Hose Pliers

I've had the old black-handle HF set for years. In my opinion this is one of those things you'll wonder how you lived without and never knew about. I use them for all the things already mentioned: removing/installing vacuum/fuel/heater hoses, disconnecting electrical connectors...

Talk me into or out of upgrading

I agree, upgrade ratchets first, and then go to pliers. I still have most of the craftsman sockets i started out with when i was 15 years old and still think they are mostly fine. You can do pretty well with some pretty crappy screwdrivers, but i've found cheap pliers to be incredibly...

new professional grade harbor freight ratchets

I've had my long-handle 3/8 flex for probably a year by now. The only problem i have with it is that the flex head gets loose. This wouldn't be so bad if you could adjust it, but the bolt thread is too small to create a high enough clamp load to keep the yoke tight, and it has such a small...

Double Box-end Reversible Ratcheting Wrenches...best bang for the buck?

Looks like that EZ Red set has that 'cap stop' feature? I like it otherwise..

Used low end SO/Mac boxes vs new harbor freight box?

I'd say it depends what truck brand stuff you are talking about. Obviously there is a lot of top notch stuff out there, but i've never been impressed with the Classic stuff, and i've spent a lot of time working out of a friend's SO ~40" top and bottom (Something like KRA4810FPBO top and...

Free pocket screwdriver from HJR - what's this thingy for?

Depending on how good the magnet is, that end can be useless or amazing. I generally prefer the magnetic ones to the schrader valve tool, but in a perfect world it would do both. :)

    Ryobi P261 impact wrench

Where did they buy the refurb at? I'd like to try that..
