    The VISES of Garage Journal

That must have been Wilton's answer to the Versa-Vise. Not their best!

    The VISES of Garage Journal

And the huge ex-Royal Canadian Navy RAE No.106. Semi-steel "unbreakable". So cheap I won't tell! The Ball Base Vise is a beauty! Now if someone would make a semi-steel version of that with a dual swivel head like the Taiwan jobs and fully enclosed like a Wilton...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

A few late photos of some earlier finds.;) Rae 40 $20. Starret/Reed No.923 (broken off piece under jaws) $20. Record 3VS with soft jaws. $40 or $45 - don't remember now.

    versa vise disassembly instructions

If someone cleaned them out of parts it must be very recently. I'll call them again and ask. They are obviously busy with whatever their business is now though and there's not much profit in selling $10 parts when you have to pack and mail them etc.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Latest finds are Starrett Athol No.923 3" for $20 this morning. Got home to find some idiot had broken the shoulders off under the arm, but it was obviously long, long ago. Still quite useable and I'll probably make a cosmetic repair, unless someone has the body of a No923 lying around with a...

    E. A. Berg cutters. High quality

They used to make a lot of nice chisels. Based in Eskilstuna Sweden at one time I believe. There's been a lot of buyouts and "consolidation" in tool makers there too. I don't know if E. A. Berg still exists or not.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Anyone recognize this little guy from that big auction by the Bay? Made in England, but by who? (TecoMaster was the Eaton's department store house line BTW - Eaton's was Canada's biggest department store chain at one time.)

    versa vise disassembly instructions

I just talked to Gaydash Industries in Uniontown, OH who were the last US makers of the Versa-Vise. They don't have any complete vises left, but do have bases and some other parts. I can see how an extra base would be a good thing to have for any vise hoarder ;) since you can bet some of these...

Vise Review - Brockhaus Heuer 100mm from Jens Putzier

Que? The other thing that looks a little doubtful about the Heuers is the open frame on the bottom. I fail to see the thinking behind that. Works OK if bolted to a swivel base, but attached a bench, **** would tend to get underneath the slide and jam it. Counter-intuitive from a strength...

Vise Review - Brockhaus Heuer 100mm from Jens Putzier

The height adjustable units look good and the one that swivels under the bench, even better. Pretty plain-jane as a vise, but those are very good accessories! Go to 3:00 here:

    versa vise disassembly instructions

Just picked up a nice Versa Vise for $30 at an estate sale. I was late, but at least I got that. I think the reason it was still there was that other buyers couldn't figure out how to use it and thought something was missing. Has the high, thin jaws; did they make different types? Looks...

    RAE Vise

Correction: it's a 106, not 103. It's not 18" opening as I said before, but it's definitely at least 14". Page above says 9" normal opening, so maybe the RCN ordered a special size. Good question, very little info on this company online, at least that I could find. Maybe they moved from...

    RAE Vise

Just got a Rae 103 vise for $25. Well pleased with that. Reportedly ex-RCN and looks very little used. No "Orillia, Canada" on this one though. Must be at least 18" opening capacity. Photos later. Looks like these are basically a cast steel vise! "Guaranteed unbreakable under normal useage."

Not very big garage of Russia

Ya izuchal russki yazik adin god v univertitete, no ya mnoga zabuil; and probably even that is not correct! I am curious: what is "Chinomontage" (to use French transliteration)? Nice big space you've got there, and a pit too; that is a nice thing to have; as long as it does not fill with...
