Shop activities for the kids during the brutal cold of winter

My boys rode their Stryders & Plasma Cars in the garage at our last house. I had ramps I built that they rode their Stryders down to build up speed. When they got older I set up an indoor target range for air rifles. There are all sorts of targets that incorporate games that we enjoyed...

Looking for the worlds strongest magnetic hooks

I have had these Harbor Freight hooks for a while. I believe they are rated for 25 lbs but as a previous poster mentioned that probably isn't what they can hold if allowed to slide vertically. So I took one & hung a 10lb plate from it on my son's weight rack. It held: We tried 15 lbs & it...

Looking for the worlds strongest magnetic hooks

I was under a time crunch to build a dog proof gate at our cabin & ended up buying a fishing magnet with an eye hook to attach it to a steel post. I figured I'd do it the right way later & have a powerful magnet to use at our dock. Alas, it remains unchanged. It is way stronger than I needed...

Bookshelf (or some version…) vs Barn Girt

Interesting. I've seen a lot of different post-frame methods but not this one. At least not that I've noticed. So each column consists of two, 2x6 end pieces (vertical) with an additional 2x6 sandwiched in between, so 4.5" wide? Top plate is another bookshelf style girt with additional 2x...

Bookshelf (or some version…) vs Barn Girt

If you're going to finish the interior I would lean towards bookshelf girts. I see too many people have a traditional pole barn built & then finish the interior themselves by basically building a traditional framed wall between the poles. Seems wasteful. The lack of a path for electrical is a...

    Makita Addiction Thread

@IndyGarage did you ever replace that nut? We got 100 mph winds here earlier this week & I have a few fall pine trees to remove. Was thinking of trying that on my X2.

    Insulating cabin

It doesn't appear you have the soffit overhang or peak venting to do what you want. I have seen people use collar ties & then install insulation board over the rafters & the collar ties, thereby leaving a slight space that can be vented with gable vents. Not sure how effective this would be...

    A unique anvil

I'll do some digging. I recall finding an old patent on it. Still can't believe I let that one go. Also, don't believe mine had the hardy hole.

Paste Wax only for dining table finish

Only if you use de-waxed shellac.

Should kitchen cabinets always be installed on the concrete slab?

If the IKEA cabinets you selected have the adjustable feet you might not even need to do this. There is enough adjustment in the feet. Which cabinet line did you select?

    Tour of my shop...

Great to see you posting here again. Between GJ, airgun forums & woodworking forums I've seen your username for decades now.

    Makita Addiction Thread

Yup. X2 leaf blower is where they'll be most useful to me. I used to carry my X2 Chainsaw with me to clear hiking trails & they would have been useful there. But I don't do that anymore.

Meet Vic, the 47 Willys CJ2A....

Another thread sent me down the rabbit hole of flat fenders & I found this post. Does your friend do this to make them street legal? Or some other reason?

    Waterproof bathroom walls

There are YouTube videos about pouring epoxy on rigid foam & then installing it in showers. I don't recall what they did about making the joints water/vapor proof. Not sure what the OP plans to do in this bath so probably wouldn't be my first choice & probably more expensive than FRP.
