The ‘getting the lathe temporarily setup’ project has gone rather well despite the random rabbit holes…
It is back in its short to medium term position, I hastily jury rigged some power and light up too - these really are only short term arrangements.
The lathe now has the DRO fitted, which...
I had a home brew dro on this machine previously (a Schumatech kit using Chinese scales) but managed to kill the scales with coolant. The encoder heads are far better protected in this setup, but yes, going back to dials only was a pain. ive never had a dro on my mill though, so that will be a...
partly as a break, partly waiting for parts and partly because I’m incapable of finishing something before starting several new things, I decided to have a bit of a move around under the mezzanine so I could get my lathe setup - even if its only temporary till I get the area walled in
I’ve been...
The current plan is to paint the inside, and rely on the log thickness for insulation. One reason is exactly as you describe - the vertical movement in the logs. The need to avoid mounting across vertical boards has thrown up a few challenges…
By way of an update, I got the doors fitted today...
anyway cracking on with the roof - the kit supplies tongue and groove boarding over which you are expected to put a felt or plastic (EPDM) roof. I wanted insulation and a steel roof to match in with the barn siding we had done last year - eventually the long shed next door will also get re-done...
So, not really much to tell with the barn recently - very little has changed there.
we were* getting rather closer to kicking off building work on the house, and the new cabin build plays a key part in that, so attention turned to getting that progressed.
i already put pictures up of the base...
The M300 is a brilliant bit of kit - I have lusted after one for many years. If the supermax copy works as well (and they often do, sometimes better…) then you will be a happy man. Shop looks to be coming on great - the fun with sinking forklifts is something I worry about here, but since my...
This is exactly the sort of thing that validates every single one of us’s tendency to pickup “useful” things that you might need “one day” - my congratulations that that day came so soon, and that you both remembered you had said useful thing, and you could find it! 😉🤣
yep, exactly! I’ve had it over 10 years now, and it’s a joy to use. i got chatting to the guys hired to clear the building as I walked past one lunchtime. I was asking if I could snag the Proxxon micro-Mill out of the skip when I noticed the drill. They were happy just not to have to lift it...
Not really noticed this thread before, but it’s definitely my sort of thing :)
not sure how old is old enough, but here’s one of my favourite scrap finds x intercepted on the way to the scrap yard for once…
it is a Meddings Paciera 10 speed (belt and gears for hi/lo). It’s 3phase, hence the...
you are telling me! I found the current catalogue from the original supplier, and I’m glad I was sitting down! These came from a top tier motorsport facility that was shutting down, and they aren’t known for skimping…
i have also been trying to get a bit more organised in the barn - although the pictures dont really evidence that…
i finally got round to attacking one of my snap-on boxes that I acquired before we moved. I knew it needed a clean, the drawer slides and gas struts replacing when I bought it...
House Stuff is progressing, albeit very slowly… one of the things we will need during the work is a temporary kitchen and bathroom. Whilst recuperating from my first surgery we mage the decision to bring forward our plans to replace the static caravan that we inherited with a more substantial...
