    Everybody's got some Snap-On...

Snap-On pricing has gotten absurd in the last couple years. Stuff that I bought 5 years ago is now a little over 50% more expensive. Their warranty is still excellent. I broke a socket last week. Apparently, our local truck has retired. A couple emails to corporate had a new socket in my hands...

    Metric Wrenches--USA or other?

There are a LOT of good wrenches out there. Snap-On, Wright, Hazet, USAG, Facom if you're a stickler for non-Asian.... Capri and Tekton are quite good, too. For this stuff, I never understood the "American stuff from flea market" mind set. You're not supporting the brand, and while stuff like...

    Fuel tank adapter for jack?

I just use a transmission jack with some lumber screwed to it to make a long cradle. -Ryan

Most Impressive SO Box I've Seen

I think I'd prefer a nerd work on my cars. Sure beats some meathead in a toxic wiener emporium that uses terms like "send it". -Ryan

Wright wrenches 915 set (grip 2)

Wrench lengths are anything but standardized. Indeed, SK isn't where it should be in the market. The brand effectively went out of business... so now they're made overseas at much the same price? I don't see it. I was a big SK fan. Sad stuff. When SK disappeared, I srarted getting into...

Wright wrenches 915 set (grip 2)

Snap-On tends to be longer than most in the standard length. I agree that it would be nice to have the Wright wrenches a bit longer, but they're long relative to a lot of other brands. -Ryan

Wright wrenches 915 set (grip 2)

I always wonder "how grabby" a wrench needs to be. The WrightGrip tested very well on YT, but not as well as the SBD stuff. Though, so far the WrigtGrips have gotten the usually-stuck fasteners apart.... even some fuel fittings after flare nut wrenches have failed. -Ryan

Wright wrenches 915 set (grip 2)

Funny enough, I took caliper measurements myself for the same reason. My hypothesis here is that these Craftsman wrenches have the SBD grabby teeth "profile" as found in the Mac RBRT and USAG wrenches. Having the USAG wrenches myself, the open ends on these wrenches are very tight. Almost too...

Wright wrenches 915 set (grip 2)

Two stand-outs: I have the little 3/8" flex head. Round head. Never use it anymore. I think I gummed up the works with a bit too much pressure. Rebuild kits are *not* cheap... though I got one for it. I tried their 1/4" spinner handle.... junk, frankly. No detents in the "female end" for a...

Wright wrenches 915 set (grip 2)

I wish I liked my other Wright tools as much as their wrenches. The wrenches are amazing. -Ryan

What’s the point of “impact” extensions in common drive sizes?

Also: an extension of any sort functions like a torque stick. I try not to use extensions at all if I can get away with it. Shorter is betterer. I've had bad luck with prescription bifocal safety lenses. They never seem to work quite right, and they're pretty crude. It is nice to have to wear...

HF US General series 3 question....

That's my thought. I gotta go get a closer look at the lip. If they were really protecting themselves from litigation, they might make the lip incompatible. I totally get the off-balance thing. We've been looking for better furniture for the house. No one will make dresser drawers that open all...

HF US General series 3 question....

Tools are spilling over onto shelves. Need another toolbox for the lesser used tools. Thinking about the Series 3 US General. Seems hard to beat (or even match it) it for the price. Can you put a side cab on the 27" roll cab?..... HF says no.... but that may be the liability lawyers. I can't...

I'm impressed at the efficiency of the OHV engine on my snowblower

I get it. Most of the cars in my driveway use the same engine Volvo introduced in 1976.... ....but fuel savings with modern small engines pays for the equipment pretty quick. -Ryan

Modern-day small engines are silly efficient. It still blows my mind. -Ryan
