    The VISES of Garage Journal

Hello all, Merry Christmas xmas I picked this up recently, looks to me to be an American Stephen's lever vise. How it got to the U.K. I don't know, but it's quite a cool old thing.

Superb find ! I look forward to seeing this cleaned up. Parkinson's are brilliant (I have a few), they were still made after the war.

Hello all My recently bought Fortis Standard Steel. I'm rather pleased with this :D I've never seen one of these marked with Standard on before. If anyone knows any information on these or if the blue paint still present in some areas is original (it looks old) please let me know. Cheers

Hello dutchgray Yes I agree most of the older style Parkinson's i've seen have been rather battered. They do look cleaner don't they, it's a style I rather like. New Record Vise

Hello No, it won't wind out like a conventional vice, you just turn 360 anticlockwise & pull, it winds in like a conventional one. You can once it's been spun 360 anticlockwise also push it closed, but mine sometimes doesn't like that & you can hear a graunch from the thread etc so I always...

Hello Yeah you turn the handle 360 degrees anti clockwise & then pull. See photo of the instruction sticker. Cheers

Nice vice. My SQ4 says hello. I'm assuming the SQ6 has the quick release worked by rotating the handle backwards like the SQ4 does? The finish on mine is 100% original if that's of any help to you. If any more pictures would assist just say. Cheers
