That one you have pictured is for sprinkler lines. It's not going to go down 48 inches. What you need is a mini excavator.

There's two different kinds. One with a set screw for bit retention and the other one with quick release for bit retention. Apex SC-108 & Apex QR-108

I have to wrap electrical tape around the handle to cover the hole. I have a scraper I use for scraping mower decks that I do that to.
