Rockwell 46-111 lathe--trying to get into the headstock

When I shine a light into the set screw holes, I don't see any doubled-up set screws. I can see threads down to the spindle, which shows some marring. So that could be the obstruction. This reminds me of a technique that the OP in one of the linked posts above used. I don't think I understood...

Rockwell 46-111 lathe--trying to get into the headstock

I appreciate the replies. Even though I'm still wrestling with it, I feel less in the wilderness about what's going on. After spending a some time with the lathe this afternoon and spraying more lubricant into the set screw holes (the best place I can find to try to get it between the pulley...

Rockwell 46-111 lathe--trying to get into the headstock

About the set screws, I confirm that they're out. Totally removed and sitting in a bag on my bench. I do get full rotations of the pulley. Thanks very much for those links. I'd read the first thread, but not the second, which contains some interesting ideas to try there. I'll have to re-read...

Rockwell 46-111 lathe--trying to get into the headstock

A good question. I don't know. I've also tried a puller, thinking that if the pulley wasn't threaded, that would get it off, but the puller didn't move it. Admittedly, I may not have tightened the puller enough--I was nervous about damaging the pulley, since the metal feels pretty soft to me...

Rockwell 46-111 lathe--trying to get into the headstock

My pulley has the nut made into it, like so: The whole part moves when I turn it with a wrench, but it won't advance on the threads.

Rockwell 46-111 lathe--trying to get into the headstock

Long before buying this lathe locally, I found myself watching YouTube vids of people turning. There was something really hypnotic and soothing about watching the chisel do its work in the spinning wood. So, after getting an older drill press and table saw up and running earlier this year, I...

    watt's up

Hi, everyone. Been lurking for a little while now, but the time comes when a fellow has to ask a question or two . . . In the past year or so I've become really fascinated with vintage tools. I bought and restored an Atlas 1020 drill press that is just a joy to use. Same with a late 50s...
