This would be true with romex. All connections need to be inside boxes, and I would never do this anyway as I think it's sloppy. However, the wires in question here are low voltage ~22AWG wire for the garage door safety sensors. I don't see any problem with properly soldering and taping these...

More progress today, got almost all of the 5/8" up on the walls between the house and the garage. Spent lots of time cutting pieces around the pipes, but that was the worst of it. I'm hoping to get back to wiring the ceiling tomorrow night

A little update: Started wiring in the ceiling boxes, added a receptacle in the ceiling in the middle of the room (I'm thinking possible retractable droplight). Also, the existing receptacle for the garage door opener is up inside the ceiling, so I moved that down flush with the ceiling, right...

Faced and unfaced were the same price. I figured the faced stuff might be easier to install. Also I feel like having a continuous, taped poly barrier will be much better than relying just on the "vapor retardant" paper backing. I certainly could be wrong though, is there a reason not to do it...

Updates from this weekend... Found this inside the wall! It wasn't live, thankfully. I traced it back as far as I could, then cut it and terminated it safely inside a box. Moved onto tearing out the rest of the insulation, and behind it found more mold on the backside of the laundry room...
