New a/c for shop.... not impressed

I don't know if you're in a humid climate it's better to have a smaller unit as it will remove more humidity. I was planning a 5 ton unit in my 2600 sqft addition and the HVAC guy did a load calc and said 3-3.5 is better, our old building that is the same footage of this guys has a 2.5 ton and...

    Sizing HVAC system

I flat out told the company that I intended to purchase and install the unit and then have them come out for final install and turn on, they had no issue with going that route. He was also here on a service call for our old unit that went out so he made some money while out giving us the quote...

    Sizing HVAC system

That may be the case, we did try to seal this building uptight, house wrap, extra foam between girts, etc... We want to keep the office and shop at the same temperature. The shop will be mostly wrenching on vehicles and warehouse area, all the nasty welding and fume-generating fun happen on...

    Sizing HVAC system

My new post frame building is a 40x64 so 2560 sqft, 12 ft ceilings. The walls are R25 and ceiling R50-60. The building is split with 600 sqft as office space and the rest is the shop space. I had a local HVAC company come out and quote and they recommended a 3.5 ton AC and 80k but 96% furnace...

The saga of the missing Mr. Cool mini-split

The last two UPS freight shipments to my business never get delivered to us, Ive always had to go pickup. They always claim to need a appointment, I tell them were a business come anytime 9-6. With every other freight company they just show up. Seems light freight companies are hit or miss...

    Contractor woes

Some were used outside to bring the grade to slab height, but my original estimate for material was way under regardless. This material compacted better than the stuff I got last year. Each type will be a little different. I'd just err on the high side. 11 Loads of 18 tons each and I used...

AC plan for a big building

I have a similar building 40x64x12. The difference is were putting R60 in the attic and R25 I the walls because I'm in Minnesota and want to save on heating and cooling costs. My plan is to get a 5 ton AC / Gas Furnace Package unit. I would try to jump up the insulation you have as its a one...

    Office Layout help

Hey all, Love reading through all the other builds and seeing all the great setups. I have a new 40x64 that I am adding to my existing 30x45 shop. The front 15x40 will be made into the office, break room and showroom. It's not that big of an area now that I am getting ready to start framing...

    Contractor woes

I just had my 40x64 slab poured and paid the excavator $1500 to bring in the fill and compact it. I paid about $4000 for just about 200 tons of class 5 crusher run/sand. That was to bring it up by 7". We used 4 loads more than I originally expected. So depending on how much material it could...

    Concrete Screed in Polebarn question

This is how they just did my floor last week, they set rebar for height. Once they had the reference height down they pounded the rebar down into the floor and screeded the other way. The sides were chalk line as the grade board is 4" higher than floor height.

    DirtBound Building #2 (40x64)

After finding out how much it costs to rent a lull, I decided to use our forklift. However it is about 8 ft short, so we fabricated a 12 ft boom for it. Hopefully tomorrow we hould begin setting trusses.

    DirtBound Building #2 (40x64)

You can check out our website www.dirtbound.com if you would like. Today I was able to get the 4 window frames done, this is for our offices and showroom. I need to figure out how to do the corner bracing properly since we have the windows going right through where the bracing would...

    DirtBound Building #2 (40x64)

I think the reason that they rotted was that side had bad grading, the building has a 1988 inspection sticker on the electrical panel so it's been up for a while. The slab is cracking because there was not the proper backfill, so we're going to patch the building up as good as we can and if we...

    DirtBound Building #2 (40x64)

We manufacture Jeep Bumpers, Armor, Suspension and Accessories. It's a lot of fun, we just needed more space. The current shop, as you can see we are cramped for space. Once you get 6 people working it gets chaotic.

    DirtBound Building #2 (40x64)

Now that we had the holes drilled and inspected it was time to start working on the building. I pulled a few of the guys from our welding department and we knocked the posts up and girts in about 2 days. Today I was able to get the service door framed and decided on window size, so tomorrow I...
