    Top Plate Insulation

Not really sure. What I've been able to find either specifically calls out specs for living space above or doesn't mention it at all. That would imply that attached or detached doesn't matter, but since it was built specifically as unfinished no one seemed to mind. The reason I asked originally...

    Top Plate Insulation

Oh no, I understood. I looked up the local building code. Technically, they're using the 2021 IBC, which does callout as you said that R38 can be used if it runs to the exterior sheeting/covers the top plate. However there is an amendment somewhere in the CT Regs that calls out R49 without any...

    Top Plate Insulation

That's the plan. I'm going to fart around with it and see if I get something I like. The second question, not very. I agree the blocking isn't right. I never found a single image of any installed the way mine is, but that's the story of my life. LOL. The goal here is to make it as right as...

Got it, totally misunderstood what you meant. Thank you! OK, thanks boys. This gives me a better direction of what to try. I have a few ideas I'll play around with and see what works the best.

That's basically what I was thinking. 24" OC trusses. Passed inspection without issue in CT.

    Top Plate Insulation

I posted this in my garage build thread, but since I'm messing with this now and I didn't get an answer, I figure it was lack of traffic. When the garage was built, contractor placed the blocking at the edge of the top plate to be flush with the studs (see image.) Not a big deal since there...

https://ibb.co/v4nGB667 Looking around, I'm curious if I should block off the air gap that will exist between the top of the blocker and the bottom of the baffle (see image link for drawing.) Apologies for needing a link. The image is too large (drawn in CAD to scale and exported.) It's faint...

Working on messing with a ceiling and I want to be prepared to insulate it once in but I'm not 100% sure how the truss vents go. I assume that the first two are correct as the vent extends beyond the blocking. Whatever gap there is between the block and bottom of the vent would be taken...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Not today, but a couple months ago. Engine hoist is an incredibly handy tool to have.

Does anybody do wrenching without gloves & why?

Nope. Gloves only used when welding, grinding or otherwise making sparks. Also when handling sharp or really hot/cold items. Spinning wrenches, doing electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc, never. Never used gloves on the racecar. Lugnuts get damn warm in race conditions.

I guess going right along with the insulation plan... I've been looking at all kinds of ceiling options. Metal, T&G, Ply, etc. I just don't want to mess with sheetrock. Trusses are 10PSF. I, and the wife especially, likes the look of T&G and I think it offers the most options for easier...

Damn, didn't think I'd been this long without an update... Well, not much of one really. Built another shelf (no picture), did some work on the truck... Damn Barn Quilt is delaminating despite my best efforts prior to install to prevent it, so I have a 4x4 piece of Aluminum Composite to remake...

    California Air Tools

I wasn't having an issue with it on my current, but I actually just ordered an electric impact that will probably smoke my little IR air impact. I guess it's a moot point now since I'd really just need air for tires, blowing off stuff, etc. CAT still leads in my mind. I have a 220 plug...

    California Air Tools

My old two horse, 20 gallon hodge podge got a pin-hole leak in the tank so I figure it's time to replace. I'm kind of torn on these two... https://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/California-Air-Tools-CAT-4620AC-22060-Air-Compressor/p70265.html Or the bigger...

Moved my light-up AC Delco sign from the shed to the garage. That was actually a pivotal piece so that I could rearrange the shed and get the extension ladders out of the garage. You can barely see it over the top of the wife's car, but in the background right below the license plate on the...
