My experience w/ a 30k BTU heater in a three car garage (Minnesota)

Thanks to everyone who helped with my previous thread asking for advice. I have been running the Hot Dawg 30k in our 700sqft three stall garage now for about two months and wanted to give my feedback on this setup. All the contractors we talked to said we'd want at least a 45k, but I'm glad we...

    Another Mr. Heater Venting Question?

Looks good. Make sure you've got that downward slope! Bubble levels FTW Our termination is vertical, wanted to get the exhaust up and out of the way.

Hot Dawg 30k - Doing most install myself and progress!

It's done! Gas fitter came today and hooked everything up, ran the gas line beside the EMT along the wall. By doing most of the install myself, I know it was done correctly, the experience was priceless, and shaved $2,000 off the prices we were quoted to have it done for us. Thank you to all...

Hot Dawg 30k - Doing most install myself and progress!

Wall standards | Shelf brackets | Shelving Thanks, it's about 2" beyond the soffit, so I think it will be OK, but I have the same concern. Might need to swap the 12" piece before the termination to an 18", but will be keeping an eye on it (line of sight from bedroom window)

Hot Dawg 30k - Doing most install myself and progress!

Progress has been made! Local HVAC company <1 mile away agreed to finish the gas connections, make the final calibrations, and hand over a receipt claiming ownership of the entire install, so long as I do everything else correctly myself. Charging time & materials only. Thanks for the suggestion...

Hot Dawg 30k - Doing most install myself and progress!

Good idea. Might just have to do that. Hanging, venting, tstat and electrical are all DIY-able but I will need a gas fitter either way. Going to try calling some local plumbers tomorrow.

Hot Dawg 30k - Doing most install myself and progress!

Thank you, I wish this were the case, but...... No, I mean, you literally cannot talk to them unless you're a contractor. I didn't even get to the point of speaking to a person! Check this out: Call (800)-828-4328 (their only support number) Press 1 for USA/Canada Press 1 for USA Press 3 for...

Hot Dawg 30k - Doing most install myself and progress!

So, sh*t's expensive right now. $1100 for a Reznor 30k, $770 for a Sterling 30k, $860 for a Modine 30k. I opted for the Modine. Now I have hanger mount vibration isolators, unistrut, 3/8 all thread and hardware, tstat and wiring, horizontal stainless venting and this 66lb chunk of natural gas...

    Modine Hot Dawg heater smell

No sediment trap on the gas line, no condensate tee before the vertical section of vent. Shain't good! @KVF, did you ever get this one figured out?

They make those venting kits that face down and angle the exhaust outwards too, like these guys

    radiant tube heater questions?

AFAIK each radiant heater is going to be slightly different depending on the reflector and the diameter of the burner tube. The manual for a given unit may contain that information around the section for minimum distance to combustibles. Either way, radiant or forced air, the space will be...

Help me determine the best heating method for my shop

Can confirm the Rinnai. We have an ex22ctn in our four-season room for heating duty in MN. I wouldn't have used anything else... they're an incredible piece of kit. The venting AND thermostat are included in the price, and it is miserly on fuel while remaining very quiet with few on/off cycles...

How would you insulate and HVAC this garage?

The block walls and steel I beam definitely added character. I was torn between the look and the desire/need to heat the space. OP you are going about it the same way I'd do it, foam, fur out, fiberglass and rock. The cold concrete floor in winter is a lot of thermal mass to bring up to temp...
