Chef Rex, Yours looks similar too, especially the outlined areas. Some vises probably just have a better casting.

Here's a picture of a Craftsman Reed from 1943. It looks similar to mine. I am thinking it is this way from the factory or the same guy repaired both.

Reed 204R static jaw....is the area under the jaw normally like this? Forge welded? Repaired? This is my 1st Reed so I am not familiar with their specifics. Thanks

I picked up this Union Steel Chest Corp. box recently. It appears to be a #6316 and in nearly unused condition. Nice leather handle but no key for the lock. It has found a new owner already. I have too many carry boxes and this was too nice for me to actually use on a regular basis.
