Framing shop for plywood and metal walls

I haven't decided on 1/2 or 3/4 for the plywood.

Framing shop for plywood and metal walls

I have considered attaching directly to the girts and leaving the posts exposed, but, even with the plywood resting on the stem wall, I was a bit concerned (maybe unfounded concern) about the girts supporting the plywood walls between the posts. There will be nothing considerably heavy on the...

Framing shop for plywood and metal walls

Hi Everyone, Got the shop finished end of last year, pole barn, 36x50 with 18' walls. Going to start on the interior here soon. It was built with 3 ply 2x8's as the main poles, with commercial (bookshelf) girts being 2x6. 10' between poles. Girts are 24" apart. I'm planning on putting...

Shop finally done, working on the loft - railing ideas?

That's a pretty solid idea, didn't think of building a half wall.

Cable wouldn't be bad, but a bit on the spendy side.

Shop finally done, working on the loft - railing ideas?

Hi Everyone, After about 10 Months, my shop is finally built. 36x50 with 18 ft walls. Very excited about it. We've starting building the loft in the back 10 ft of the structure, so it is 36 ft wide, 10 deep. We did have the loft engineered to make it easier to get the building permit...

Garage Mezzanine - Calculations for Footers

Thanks for the replies. My gut tells me I'd be fine, but was hoping to find some calculations for it all so I can double check I don't need to dig down deeper footers. IIRC the soil PSI is 1500 here. I'll have to double check the calculations for the tributary area and what not. I don't...

Garage Mezzanine - Calculations for Footers

Hey everyone, Well, the time is finally getting closer. The builders are supposed to start on my shop here in a few weeks. I'm having a 36x50 pole barn built, with lean to's on both sides. I'm planning on building a mezzanine in it as soon as I can, the rear 10 feet of the pole barn, so the...

Deck (and future Mezzanine) Beam structural calculator

Hi Everyone, Hoping to build a deck this summer. Put together a plan and, after a couple weeks, submitted it today. Thought I had it all the requirements according to the 2018 ICC, but apparently my County had different ideas. They require "Beams | Joists | Headers over 6ft. in length or...

    Storage canopy garage temporary

Did a similar thing. Had a car that I stored in a similar shelter (and worked on it) for a couple years, then moved with the shelter and used it as storage while the new house was being worked on. Currently using it for storage while the shop is being built. Overall, took it up and down 3-4...

Buying lumbar - big box stores vs lumbar yards

Thanks everyone, what a great discussion. Glad to see there isn't complete for HD/Lowes here. One of the local lumbar yards here was pretty clear about you get what you get. Nobody can pick through the stacks. They were pretty expensive on most stuff too.

Buying lumbar - big box stores vs lumbar yards

I do wish there was a Menards around here. When I lived in OH, seemed like Menards regularly had better quality lumbar, and equivalent prices.

Do you get the dread that your great grandchildren are going to have to deal with your tools, hardware and general stuff?

Absolutely. Hard to pass up a good deal when I see one, but somebody is going to have to deal with that. At least tools and stuff are fairly easy. Big garage or estate sale. The other toys (cars, guns) are another matter! Those are going to be quite a bit harder to deal with!

Buying lumbar - big box stores vs lumbar yards

We have quite a few building projects going on this summer. Chicken coop, garage mezzanine, deck, closet remodeling, and some other odds and ends. For smaller projects, we've always just gone to HD or Lowes, but every video we watch, or thread we read, basically says to skip the big box stores...

    Butcher block work bench top?

Can't beat the price. We used those butcher blocks as countertops in our pantry, and found them surprisingly soft overall, dented and dinged pretty easily. For free, I'd go for it, but if I had to pay for it, not sure I'd use one for a workbench top.
