Wilton and Morgan Vises, scrap yard finds

I would love to restore all of them but I really dont have the time right now. Im selling my house soon and have too many projects to wrap up. Plus I bought a truck that had so many oil leaks I decided it would be easier to pull the motor. So I have to get that all back together. PM me if you...

Has this Rock Island 6" been modified?

I have a rock island 94 with forged in jaws. It has so many issue I think I'm going to scrap it. I'm I crazy for doing so? Issues are as follows: - The right side tab to bolt it to a bench is gone. - The back of the slide is missing a quarter sized chunk. - The screw has been repaired twice...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

I had this problem with a Morgan 180. I ended up threading the hole and using some all thread and a nut. The nut could then be lowered until it put some pressure on the casting nut. If you do it this way just be careful when threading. Go slow and use a lot of oil.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I'm well under 30 still. I grew up with a very handy family. After having my own garage for a while with no vise it became obvious that was unacceptable. I did way too much research and landed on a used Wilton 1765 on eBay. That was about 3 years ago. I've been doing the scrapyard EHS thing for...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

I do EHS for a scrapyard. I found it there so really no idea. However I think a local factory abused it and threw it in the scrap bin. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The Garage Journal mobile app

I need the main casting nut for a Wilton 1765. The vise has a date stamp of 7/99 and the part# is 2900340AXC. Everyone online is back ordered and I called Wilton and they are 90-120 days out on it. I also need the dust cap

Wilton and Morgan Vises, scrap yard finds

I had one for a D45 that was missing a tap so to tossed the base out and drilled the other side so I had two holes to hold it down. Those vises are pretty light duty so I was fine with my mod. When its all cleaned up it will go on my little basement shop bench. Honestly, I always thought...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

The Rock Island is a bit too far gone for me. The screw is broken in half and now lives in my dads blacksmith material pile. I got it apart with a press and found the screw had been repaired twice before. The nut had been repaired, the slide is missing a chunk about the size of a quarter in...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Shiftless, I would say I am averaging 1 keeper per month. I see countless broken no name junk though. The guys on the yard all know I have a thing for vises so they set them aside for me. No need to make room in your car just yet. I enjoy restoring them and gifting them to friends and family...
