    Cost of welding gas?

I've owned a mig welder for years, grew up using one. The last time I refilled my C25 bottle, (75% Argon/25%CO2) it cost me $125 to fill a typical 'T' tank, (300CF), and $100 to fill a 125cf tank of Stargon. That was about 8 years ago or so. I went on Saturday to exchange my C25 bottle for a...

    Broken snap-on hand tools

It helps to open and account with them, whether your buy anything or not, at least that way they have you the system. I've had a Snap On account for about 45 years or so but never had to deal with them by phone until about 12 years ago. Many of the local dealers all seem to have gone away. The...

Columbian vise find at yard sale

Nope, bright and early as the sun was coming up. It was on the corner of a yardsale that was advertised as having tools for sale on CL, the place where I got the vises wasn't the one that was advertised. The one in the ad was a bust, nothing but junk and old kids clothes and broken Chinese tools.

Columbian vise find at yard sale

Its a Mac tools slip, It says Pennbrook Tool Sales on a yellow MAC tools receipt. Its back at the house. My guess is it was a truck dealer being a Mac tools receipt. Some of the receipts show Pennbrook Tool sales some say D&P Tools on them both around the same time. There's an inch thick book...

Columbian vise find at yard sale

I've seen the Wilton version of this around but this thing I just bought is a lot beefier. The only thing its got it common with the newer Chinese Wilton is that the jaws measure 5 1/2" wide. Its pretty heavy for its size, about 45 lbs or so. It dwarfs the D43 1/2 vise. The guy who had it said...

Columbian vise find at yard sale

What did I just find? I gave $10 for the pair, both Columbian branded vises. The larger one is marked Columbain 4500, the other D43 1/2 both are marked Made in USA. In another box I bought were a book of MAC tool receipts, among those receipts is a $345 slip for a Columbian 5 1/2" 'Double jaw'...

    School me on pallet racking

That's called Keystone racking, you might want to look at Atlanta Pallet Racking, even if its not from them they may be able to ID the source or supply something compatible. I had some of that stuff a few years ago and sold it to a guy in Winchester, VA. I came to me mixed in a lot of P slot...

    Skil Sander model 9 handle?

I didn't see this till just now, that looks like it would work great for mine. I've been using it with a duct taped ball formed around what's left of the hold handle for years, basically about 3/4 of the one side handle is there and about an inch of the other side, I wrapped them with tape to...

Snap On CT30 3/8" 9.6v Impact gun battery solutions?

I have four of those CT30 impacts, I agree, there is no modern equal replacement. they had it right back then and everything since has either been too heavy, too strong, or complete junk. For me, the CT30 was a replacement for what was at the time a 40 year old Chicago Pneumatic Butterfly gun...

How to clean VERY old duct/duck tape off metal drawer fronts?

Goo Gone or WD40 is the only way to go. I just got done removing all sorts of old labels from about 400 Akron bins/drawers Someone must have liked the look of shipping labels rather than the proper drop in place tags, (Which were still brand new in a bottom drawer). Goo Gone is expensive if you...

4 year old shingle roof bubbling

My neighbor had some guy do the roof on his garage a few years ago, after a couple hot summers he had huge swells like that in the roof. It turns out they used a nail gun and most likely had the pressure turned up too high and punched all the nails nearly completely through several patches of...

Flammable liquids cabinet - they're crazy expensive. Fire-rated gun safe or old non working fridge an option?

Years ago my insurance company insisted I have one in the garage since I stored both automotive paints and various shop chemicals. I looked at and priced a few new cabinets and really wasn't impressed. |I picked up a medium size cabinet used at an auction for cheap but it was too small and the...

    SILENT KILLERS!!!! Old S-O screwdrivers

Most of my Snap On screwdrivers range from the late 70's to the mid 90's or so with a few replacements made over the years. So far I haven't had any of my plastic handle screwdrivers deteriorate but about a year ago, I had put a new set of the early rubber grip handle screwdrivers which I...

    Atlas Benchtop Mill

I worked in a machine shop in the 80's that had a good number of old Atlas, Craftsman, and Clausing 12x36 lathes, a few Clausing mills, and row of Atlas, Sears, and Rockwell drill presses. They also had a few older South Bend lathes, a pair of Bridgeport mills, and one newer but much larger...

    Atlas Benchtop Mill

I never realized that Atlas was considered a hobbyist level brand? About 40 years ago, at my first real job we had a very large, slightly strange shop press that had the Atlas Press Company logo on it. It was rated something like 150 tons and had three press sections. The main frame of the...
