Thanks, its 1.25" square thread. I'll check the TPI and depth tomorrow.

Cool, that's about the same as mine then. Much more than the 9in advertised for the 22. It seems like the other 22's in pictures look shorter, like 9" would be about right.

Yeah, I've looked there, around the spindle, under the ram, on the nut. nada! Not even a hand stamp!! If it was modern I would say it was a Chinese clone haha It look identical to yours though. What the open on yours? And if you can, the length of the machined square portion of the ram.

I've thought of that, and I might give it a try if I cant find a usuable one. Problem is its a square thread. I'd probably have to make that tap. Machinist handbook describes it as a 5 step tapping operation.... That tap would cost 150 just in materials. I saw one haha. Plus a week for me to...

Well I have a Bridgeport Mill, and a lathe. So the jaws and jaw mounting surface would be an easy fix. Making a 1.25 square internal thread is beyond my abilities at the moment haha. What would be a reasonable price to pay for that nut? I can't find one, so not sure what it matters. If I...

Yeah I saw that. Kind of a odd duck isn't it? So this would have been sold as a store brand I assume? Any idea if the spindle nut is common with certain other Prentiss vises?

Pretty close. I think the long square part on mine is a little longer. If I measure from where the "8" on your tape measure to the end, its 17". Wanna get rid of that nut :)

Very cool. I'll have to reassemble it and check the opening width. That 168 is very close. I weighed all the parts separate and added. I might have missed something or added wrong. Now, where to find a spindle nut!

As far as it being a number 22, I had kind of pressed past that assumption based on the swivel lock design, and the listing here http://scuttle.dayid.org/wiki/index.php/Prentiss_Vise That lists it as only opening 9". I'm not 100% certain of course. That is very close either way. There is a...

I ran out and put it on the scale. Right at 160lbs I looked for that right around the front of the dynamic by the spindle and nothing. There is absolutely zero markings on it. Cast, stamped, or other wise!

Thanks! It certainly has had a hard life. Hopefully I can resurrect it! It is OMG heavy. Easily over 100 pounds, probably 150.

    Prentiss Vise help

Hey guys, I had a friend give me this vise after I broke the back jaw off my china vise. I tore it apart to clean it up and the inner nut is trashed as you can see in the pictures. I think the vise is a No 2x Prentiss. 6 in jaws, 11 inch open, swivel jaw and base. Maybe a 22,23 or 26...
