    Part Washer Fluid

I'm using kerosene in mine; read it as a suggestion somewhere. Cheap(ish), works decently well, doesn't have a super strong smell... but the fire risk isn't great. I've had my tank sitting in an uninsulated barn (hot in the summer) and it's been fine for 3 or 4 years now. YMMV

    Metal building reviews

Interesting to hear of comps. I built the wife a "craft house" which was 30x30, including the front porch area (making the interior 30x26). This was 2 years ago and my building price was $13k for the engineering and materials kit (I DIY built it), slab work was $9500. Yes, I live in a high...

Sanity check on cost for gutter

I'm with you. I've gone up onto that roof a few times and it's always pretty intense transitioning to/from the top of the ladder. The crew that did my job made use of one of these when they were up there having to lean over the abyss. Thought it was pretty cool and I want to pick one up myself...

Sanity check on cost for gutter

Update: got another bid that came in at a tick under $1300 for my project. While this was cheaper than my first bid, the real win for me was that this contractor came out the very next day and banged the job out in a couple of hours! He and his helper definitely knew what they were doing and...

Sanity check on cost for gutter

Let's not turn my thread into a ******* match over the merits of what people should get paid. My point is that inflation has caused a lot of havoc (and, per the comment above, compressed wages). I work in what used to be considered a highly skilled and technical field, and used to feel that I...

Sanity check on cost for gutter

Man, you aint kidding! Just yesterday I met my wife for lunch at one of our local Panda Expresses (not my fault, she likes it  ) and they actually had a recruitment sign in the lobby saying that regular line workers can make something like $40k and the salaries went up from there. I...

Sanity check on cost for gutter

I appreciate everybody playing "how much should it cost?"; it's super helpful to hear about what others are paying. For anybody who's interested, here's the punchline: I was quoted about $1450. Seems to fall in line with what many are saying, if not a bit on the higher side, but that's pretty...

Sanity check on cost for gutter

Ha no worries. A single piece would def be less prone to leaking, i’ll give you that! The rep said they would make it in two parts so each half could slope downward toward each end… all seems perfectly reasonable.

Sanity check on cost for gutter

No idea as they havent done it yet, but the person told me there would be one joint right in the middle so i assume two pieces.

Sanity check on cost for gutter

I just received a quote to install a gutter on the front of my barn… was wanting to see if it’s reasonable or i’m getting a “go away” quote since it’s not a huge job for them. Anybody know what aprox cost for this job should run me? - only want a single gutter on the front of the structure -...

    Replacing asphalt driveway with pavers

I'm located out in a rural-residential area with a few houses that have fully pavered entries/driveways - they look pretty impressive. But I'll add as somebody with (1) a long asphalt driveway, and (B) a 40x50 pavered patio that (iii) I personally did all the paver work myself... I wouldn't do...

Hot water options in my garage.

Funny, just a month ago I bought two of these - one for my shop and one for another out-building: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BHYV6JPD/?tag=atomicindus08-20 I wanted something for handwashing and quick cleanups that was (1) cheap, (2) easy to install, and (3) electric (didn't want to muck with...

    Firewood rack. 4x4 or 2x4?

Ha, nice... small world. I have an L3901 and upped the lifting capacity of my tractor. When some of my "shacks" are loaded with green wood they can get up to (or over?) a thousand pounds, I'm sure of it. It can make for driving them around a little sketchy! Being able to move them around...

    Firewood rack. 4x4 or 2x4?

Yep, same here. I made a bunch of racks out of pallets, scrap lumber, and leftover tin from a couple of barn builds. They aren't very pretty, but I made mine small enough (1/2 cord) so I can move one closer to my house using the tractor. I empty one and then replace it with a full one; works...

Any tricks for fast ordering/sorting of fractional sizes?

Wow, thanks for that tip; just grabbed a couple of wall charts for free (along with some other goodies). In case others are interested, I found what looks like their marketing site here: https://starrett.byqqp.com/catalog/ I'm sure it's the same items; just needed to create a free account and...
