I just got four of these for $25 each and the guy said he has a bunch more. They are out of an old electronics shop, used for small parts and components. Drawers are about 10" wide, 3" high, and 12" deep, whole thing is about 32"x38"x13". Good size for mounting on wall. Came with a million small carboard bins that fit the drawers perfectly. Painting the body in black hammer paint and the drawers in silver, to match my other cabinets. Going to use one for house plumbing and wiring bits, and one for all my misc hardware that is currently in a million junky plastic trays and bins. Not sure on the other two yet. Seem very nicely made and heavy duty.

I won this cabinet at an auction last night. No name on it, but not home made. Maybe a Lyon brand?
What I like about it is that it's already painted to match the cabinets in my shop, VERY heavy duty, on casters and my little table top parts cleaning tank fits on it perfectly.

Hallowell I think. They usually are the makers of work benches with those 3 lined drawers any time I see them.

Looks like the one I pulled out of the scrapyard, except mine has worn-out casters on it.
Your top is in better shape than mine, which is why I covered it with the 1/2" aluminum plate.

It does have a complete split on the top but still pretty solid.

I figured you guys would appreciate these. My wife and I went to an estate sale a couple of weekends back and they had these Dorman cabinets for 450 dollars, they were selling everything for 50% off so they would have been 225. Needless to say I did not need them bad enough to pay that premium. The estate sale company said they would be selling the remaining stuff the following weekend and it would be I believe 75% off the final day. Well she talked her friend with a Tahoe into going back this past Sunday without telling and snagged them up for me. She got there an hour early, her friend and her worked their butts off to cram them into that Tahoe, it was like a Jenga stack when I unloaded them. I believe in total with the "Lamson" cabinet, Dorman cabinets and some other misc. items she purchased for herself she got out of there for 165.00. I don't think I should say it to her but she gets a "you ****" from me.

The Dorman units have a bunch of dividers in them so I need to take out a small loan and start loading them up with fasteners. I've got a couple of mix and matched bins here and there but it will be nice to have some dedicated nuts and bolts storage. Lamson unit also included a fair amount of dividers.

The beginning of October I came across some cabinets. First was a rummage sale at a local church, where I found a 5-drawer lateral file and a 4-shelf bookcase unit for a combined $20.00. A couple of days later I was able to negotiate purchase of three 11-drawer card files for $150.00, but had to take the contents with them. These were left over from an estate sale, and they had priced them for $150.00 each, which was way too much for the market. I made the offer at closing time, and they helped load out everything. We took the drawers out to load them in the truck.

Took some warehouse rack style Rousseau drawers (i.e. like the blue drawers in the background) and made some steel frames. One of these days I will get to making the top cabinets and will paint the drawers to match the red theme.

All: Of course I didn’t need it but this big old Hamilton cabinet had the look so it’s mine now. It’s a keeper so I’ll try to find a spot for it.

Jeff I love that style cabinet and I think I own 6 of them. Some have 19 inch deep drawers too which is nice if you have the space. Nice find and great use for it.

I bought this no name mobile 6 drawer file cabinet for $25. My guess is that it was manufactured in the 1950s. Compared to standard file cabinets, it has a shallow depth of only 18", same as a normal roll around tool cabinet. Weighs in at 245#. I replaced the original casters (as shown in the last picture) with 4, swivel casters to make it easy to maneuver in my garage.
Anyone have an idea who manufactured it?

Thanks. Standard file cabinets are great for storing large portable power tools. Like the steel kitchen cabinets of the late 1950s, you can't get that level of quality these days unless you have a lot of $$$$$.

I found a nice homemade metal tool box at the landfill site by the scrap metal pile, where people leave things that might be useful to someone else. Nicely done, but unfinished as one of the tray supports was never tacked into place, but it's there for future attachment .

Looks like it was badly spot welded and they came off. At least they saved them. If you re-spot weld, make sure the mating surfaces are very clean.

I picked this socket box up yesterday at an estate sale, and while I know I have seen this style before, I cannot for the life of me remember who used them:

The red is original to the box, and there are no markings that I have found as too who used it for socket sets. I plan to put '20s Snap-on in it, unless it was used to house someone I collect and or have around.

That traffic control box is really cool. My pair of old traffic lights are made by the same manufacturer and have the eagle on the back of the housings.

I have a new diamond plate pickup box I've been thinking of mounting sideways on the wall for a cabinet, I got it on clearance for $40ish and it has nice struts in it so the lid/door would get held up and open if I did, which would be slick.
