I expect I will be playing for a few weeks, my plan is to start cleaning things up. Going to load test the big forklift and see how bad the main ram pukes. Would really like to get a few of the biggest things moved before I tear that apart. So many projects and so little time, winter is almost here.

$200 later and the yard donkey is at least movable, not sure if there are any other issues, couldn’t hook up to a trailer as it was kind of trapped in by an I-beam. Tomorrow should be a decent day, look who is back in action.

Thanks!

I have driven a good solid 40 miles and the failure point was bearings that were either start ed for oil or overtightened, so far hubs have been nice and cool to the touch every time I stopped to check them. Also no leaks that I have seen either.

I am doing a final checklist, then headed out, should be there before 8 AM with traffic, it is right outside Boston.

It is very hot and sticky down here, I have two 30’ rail sections down and one of the big beams. Have to move 10’ forward and I can grab another beam and a couple other things, then I have to move backwards a ways to get two more beams from the other side. The guy told me there was a delay and I can remove more tomorrow if I want, but the rest of it is a PITA to remove compared to the four beams I am going to grab, even more so since I am flying solo. That will give me enough beams to easily do what I want and have some spares, plenty of rail as well. The fun part is going to be loading everything, will be a squeeze with the forklift in the middle. Probably going to have to use perk to load those, we will see.

I have not pulled any brackets down yet, going to load everything and then decide. I still have two beams to remove, but the hard part was getting things to where I could line up Perk and get the outriggers down, so it shouldn’t take too much longer to get them on the ground. I can always come back for the brackets this weekend, but in my pickup truck with some basic tools.

It is not going well, everything is just laid down weird and I am having trouble getting good tie downs. I think I have the last part figured out, but I am totally wiped out, going to have to take a nap for sure almost 24 hours since I left and I am almost out of water. I am definitely running out of lights and charging is going slow. The remote for the knuckleboom stopped working, hopefully just the battery. I have two beams, 4 pieces of 15” long rail and the spreader/lifting beam to load. I don’t want to come back, not for brackets, not for anything.

Jim, that was the clean part, some places had granite and marble out five feet from where the bridge crane was. The deal had been that whatever was left would be junk and we could push it out of the way, there were only two bays like that, the rest were all expensive product and we couldn’t damage it. Turned things into a bit of a challenge for sure. Tomorrow at noon I am getting the last of the pieces, then I can figure out how I am storing things at the Salvage Garage, that will turn into another project all on its own.

I will have ten full length I beams (20’ horizontals) and two that were cut a bit shorter, I got more rail than that, then two bridges, one manual, one powered. I ended up with six bracket sets, but I am not sure how I will be mounting things yet, so they may not be used. If the deal had gone down like originally planned, I would have had 16 full length and four cut offs, wish that had worked out, but I am happy with what I got.

Just got back with the last of the beams, as I had thought these beams and brackets were part of the original building from the late 1800s, the rails may also be that old. Apparently the building was a locomotive repair shop, then in the 1930s it was used as a heavy truck repair shop. After these guys bought it in the 1960s the place flooded several times, so they backfilled about 6’ of the entire area including inside the shop and poured a new floor, so the building used to be taller, when they did that, they had the new bridge built and added the electric hoist. Really cool to know that the beams I will be using are from the 1800s and still going strong!
