I also had to glue a base back on. Actually I used RTV. The base coming loose and a clip breaking were both the result of loaded rails falling, but other rails typically survive this abuse. If they stayed in a drawer, I doubt there would be a problem.

A word of warning - if your garage is unheated be very careful with your V-series socket racks. I've broken two clips this week. :-( The garage temperature was a little above freezing. I've never ever broken a socket clip before so this was surprising.

Also you can see on the right-hand rack the magnetic base has come unglued. An easy fix, but disappointing.

I'll try the warranty line and see what happens.

Has it actually been confirmed whether v series is discontinued?

Just grabbed this metric set of wrenches off eBay

IMG_1807.jpegIMG_1809.jpeg

I picked these mostly for the holder, although the value price and innovative design caught my attention as well.. Grabbing a fistful of wrenches from the toolbox anytime I have to work out in the yard is getting old, and it’s hard to keep track of them that way. With these, I can just grab the rack and go.

I am interested to see how they perform. The unusual offset on the box end and the extra-angled head are different from most other combo wrenches. The forging & broaching is very nice and they feel like a high quality tool. My only quibble is with the length - they are not very long at all, maybe even bordering on “short”. I’m not someone who insists on long patterned wrenches … I find them cumbersome, but these seem shorter than ideal. On the bright side, a shorter wrench means that it is lighter to carry on the go.

SAE set is next on my “to buy” list …..

Yeah, the length is weird on these- the small sizes are fairly long, and the larger sizes are fairly short- they don't grow in length proportional to the size like most sets Still, they're really nice wrenches and the case is fantastic for grab and go. My primary inch size wrenches are Williams super combos and while they're awesome wrenches, they're just monstrous and heavy for smaller sizes in comparison to these.

Are V series craftsman made in USA? .....Or are the discontinued?

Where do you go to get replacements for broken tools under the "lifetime guarantee"

The line is discontinued but you can still find almost everything on eBay, Ace Hardware online and Lowe's online. Most are made in Taiwan and some things like the Pliers Wrench is or was made in France.
For Craftsman warranty, I go to my laptop and file a warranty claim on the Craftsman website. I haven't had to warranty any V-Series items as I haven't used any of them yet.

That looks like a handy little tool! I guess I should move that Accessory drive set in priority to buy. There's someone on eBay that has the accessory drive set for sale without this bit holder. They added an Ernst socket holder rail as the 10th piese I guess.
One of the lesser known V-Series gems is the itty bitty 1/4 drive locking bit adaptor.
As far as I know it only showed up in the 10 piece multi drive accessory set #CMMT17799V.

I wish the 1/4 drive extensions in that set were locking. The 3/8 ones are and remind me of Proto’s sans knurling.
The universals are basic with a rivet joint but nicely finished.
Without chrome, the adaptor is like the black sheep of that set, but in a good way. It works well and retention is excellent.

So I ended up grabbing the SAE set and they’ve been great but they really are on the small side. Here’s a 3/4” and 15/16” next to my coworkers Mac Precision Torques:

Honestly though I see the small size as an asset in the way I use them, as a “grab & go” secondary set. The small size makes the set much lighter, and the short wrenches are more easily turned. Most of the use they see is either turning air fittings or holding a nut while the screw is impacted off, and neither requires much torque. For the $60 I paid, I’m very pleased with them.

I appreciate your interesting field observations Hakeem…IIRC, when these new CM metrics first were introduced, many thought that they were identical to MAC’s metrics, in every way; there was a thread here about them and many believed they both came from the same factory..

Does anyone believe that they have been refined down to this slightly shorter version in order to remove any potential MAC association?

Yeah I decently think they made them shorter to retain the premium aspect of the MAC precision torques. That, and making them shorter helps reduce manufacturing costs to hit the lower price point.

I still think they came out of the same factory, they’re just so similar in every other way. Great wrenches even if not maybe “pro tier”
