Mig welder gas inlet

On the mig welder I added a 90 degree elbow on the back of the welder where the hose from the tank attaches. Would it be better to not have a 90 degree bend for gas flow or does it not matter? I added the 90 degree elbow fitting because of space restrictions.

I suggest you to install a flowmeter (you can put it at any place into the line. Cylinder outlet is, probably, the most convenient).
This way you can dial actual gas flow that takes into consideration all constrictions, etc.

If you are concerned that the indicated flow will be incorrect if you add an elbow, then fear not. The indicated flow is the same at the nozzle as it is at the outlet of the flow meter.

There are flow meters and there are regulators with gauges calibrated to show approximate flow. He already has something since unless you make your own, there's no hose with CGA-580 fittings on one end a NPT on the other. Whatever he has is going to be fine. If it's a calibrated gauge, it doesn't really matter what it reads. Not enough gas, increase the flow (pressure). Too much gas, reduce. This isn't rocket science.

That said, I do prefer an actual flow meter since it can help troubleshoot coverage issues

The gauge or flow meter is just a reference anyway. Your skill, experience, technique, and machine will determine the settings that work best.

It will be fine. Did mine last years after killing hose with bend in it's resting place.
With the flow rates you run it will make minimal difference.
