Applied Citristrip to the Athol, the red paint started running before I finished the application. Second coat is on now and I’ll spray it off this evening.

IMG_4911.jpeg

Loaded the truck with cast-offs and made a run to Goodwill.

Fiddled with my new last year hose end spray nozzle, tried to use it over the weekend and it worked fine for about 30 seconds and then plugged shut. Fine yellowish wisps protruding slightly from every orifice. Spider web? Got a light and a pick and fished out what looked like a grape from the area near the valve. We irrigate with culinary so some critter must have packed that in there. A couple of applications of compressed air from the outside in and it seems to work fine again.

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF SADISTS ARE YOU PEOPLE?

I suffer a life-threatening--or at least altering--on-the-job injury (based on the reactions at the clinic) and you all give me LIKES?

What's a fella gotta do for a little sympathy around here?

[/sarcasm]

The naivete of the current generation of medical staff never ceases to amaze me... when I was a kid, we'd step in a rusty barn spike, send it through our shoe and foot, ride our bikes to the family Doc who'd pull i tout with a pair of slop-joint pliers, give us a tetanus shot--using another rusty nail for a hypo--and he'd tell us to get home and get some chores done before sunset.

These kids had to lecture me on the dangers of penetrating wounds, the pain and potential nail loss of nail-bed damage, the extreme risk of infection posed by a finger wound... I was afraid they were going to check me in to the hospital for observation or call for a life flight... asking if I needed a couple of days off work to recover....

Gimme a tetanus shot, damnitall! I got work to do!
I cut the tip of my finger off a couple of years ago. Literally. It was hanging on by a small chunk of skin. Wife convinces me to go to urgent care clinic. Start talking with this doc. Looks at it. We start talking about how it happened. He says "I can try to sew it back on, but not sure how it'll take."

He was an artist. It took A LOT of stitches. We talked cars, engines, wood working etc. "You really need a cosmetic surgeon."

"Doc it's a finger. I missed by shot as a hand model."

finger1.jpg

It heals up. Cut stitches out. Finger tip didn't really "take". Had a gap. Days go by, it feels like a blister or scab. Wife chews me out - "Stop messing with it" Finally got aggravated, too many things need to get done and it's weird without a pointer finger.

finger 2.JPEG

Eventually that entire tip - I just 'removed' it. Apparently my finger tip grew back. I've got 90% feeling in it too. And finger prints starting coming back not too long after. Still looks a bit 'off' LOL

Die usually works. Anything else is cause for celebration, cause you're still on this side of the grass.

Finished up the replacement of all 1,640 roof screws, did an oil change on a '17 K2500HD, replaced the valve cover gaskets on the Pentastar in a '15 Grand Cherokee, and worked on myriad other items.

Replaced the weather vane cap while I was up on the roof with something a little older. This old **** was atop the windmill that used to pump the well at my folks place across the road (back before electricity was available out here). My guess is that it's around 100 years old. You can still make out the different colors where it was hand painted, and the genuine bullet hole adds character.

Gee, do you think this screw might have been leaking for the past 7-1/2 years?

My knees are having sympathy pains, and my back just left the room. Damn, that's alot of screws!

Beer!

It’s not just for breakfast anymore!

I cannot tell you how many times I saw my dad, with a handful of Oreos and a beer - for breakfast, before dawn, hunting and fishing...

Very nice results, I've wanted to try zinc plating...
Care to share your formula and procedure?...
I've been doing nickel plating and instead of an aquarium bubbler, I put my solution in a glass jar and then use my ultrasonic tank...
I fill the tank with tap water and use the built in heater to warm the water surrounding the glass jar...
The ultrasonic energy does an excellent job of dispersing the gas bubbles from sticking to the parts being plated...
Tell me more, please. About the nickel plating.

Finally getting caught up here.

Got the passenger seat, and center console covers done on the Red Queen™. Kicked my *** a bit. The stock passenger seat cover had multiple hog rings on the inner mounts, the new cover didn't fit all that well, and the plastic covers broke a lot of tabs. The center console cover required a lot of glueing/clamping, and fiddly trimming/finagling to get it back together. PITA, but it's over. Didn't take any pics as I was just focused on getting it done so I can move on to numerous other projects.

Managed an oil change on the truck. Couldn’t do it outside yet due to snow/ice on roadway so I used the garage. Since I had it empty for awhile I pulled the car mat out and did a little cleanup of the winter crud that had accumulated. Made a quick trip to the auto parts store for a new oil pan drainage bolt. Don’t remember it being rounded up that badly from last fall.

Not much to it really...
I followed this Video for the setup and the making of the solution...
I found it easier to use my ultrasonic cleaner for temperature control of the solution and removal of the gas bubble that can interfere with the plating finish...
My plating solution goes into a glass container that sits in a heated water bath in my ultrasonic tank...
Hook up the part with some copper wire and a strip of Nickel to a variable AC to DC power supply and let the magic begin...

I mostly use this method for small parts limited to container and tank size... Not car bumpers ... Yet...

Back to the ford tractor. Added gas and after idling to warm up the carb leaked again after shutoff. So back to the drawing board. Leak was much less than before adjusting the float so I'm heading in the right direction. Removed, disassembled and adjusted. In my interweb research I found a better image of the float spring. As i have had this on and off many times I thought make it like the picture, not following the wear marks. The base has a bumpout which appears to match the springs dogleg. Well try it and see. Installed tested, ran for 10 minutes, watched for 10 minutes. Seemed like no leaks to be seen so the float adjustment and spring placement-per the newly found image, seemed to work. Idles too fast, thats next.

Your DIY Evaporust - does it involve Citric Acid?

Slick setup on the plating...

I should follow up: Obviously, using my left hand to hold those pads while I tacked them on with the brad nailer was a poor call.

I was using the brads to hold the pads in place so I could pre-drill and screw them. I figured out how to use a Quick-clamp to hold the pads while I did the drilling and driving--much less pain.

Finished 3d printing the case for the Weather Station display. Got it all screwed together and hung on the wall. I discovered part of the design for the backplate is backwards, which is why the power cord just dangles from the side. New backplate currently printing. I'll probably change up the code some. I'm thinking of adding humidity, arrows to show if temps are rising/falling, and maybe adding wind speed/direction to the right side to go with rainfall amounts. Probably even update the rain display to add week/month amounts.

Had plans to do the Trans / Diff fluid service on my wife's '13 Camaro SS. Got home, changed, went in the shop, and looking for a certain funnel, I ran across two boxes. Unopened. Before I could finish asking myself "What the hell is in those boxes?" I realized they were the mulching blades for my zero turn. Buddy recommended them. Picked them up some time when it was way too cold to actually think about the mower.

I WILL fight the urge to make long tube headers part of the '100k mile service' - I swear. It's my wife's daily. 420HP is enough.

Right?
Do it. :)

I restored the headlights on my 2005 Chevy Silverado. They were yellowed to the point that the bulb could not be viewed through the lens. The turtle wax kit worked wonders, as you can see the difference between the head light and directional light housings.

It's my wife's daily driver. She loves it. I like it a lot, for a vehicle without a clutch pedal LOL.
It initially caught her, and then my eye, because it's a really rare color combo. White with black / ebony interior and tan top. It's a 2SS car with every factory option and it had ZERO modifications except for the top of the line Borla stainless catback, added by the original owner.

It only had 77K miles when we bought in '23. Just hit 100K.
It was a random find - but we both like it a lot.
