Didn't really need this, or more importantly, don't have the space for it ATM. But I couldn't let someone else have it. Super clean, minimal rust. All the drawers and slides are in perfect condition. But is missing the bottom door and keys. Only needed Scrubs-in-a-Bucket to clean it up. Was loaded with mechanics tools. Dates are 1973.

That’s fantastic. You can build yourself a very acceptable lower door from a nice donor panel ( of some sort) of sheet steel, and epoxy some strip magnets on the perimeter edges along the back.

Either drill to finger holes in a visually pleasing spot, or fab a nice length of aluminum angle for a handle. Hopefully you’ll source an original door in due time.

A Friday night FBMP find first pic is as found and before and clean of tray. The rest are cleaned up using left over car wash supplies from washing truck
The tags are classic. I still have one of those label makers and some tape laying around somewhere. The Brother label maker has replaced it.

My box (in avatar) was my late uncle's. When I took it apart to paint it, I saw on the inside that he had put his initials with that classic tape in hidden spots. They were still stuck there after 50 years. I left them there as is.

Friday night Facebook marketplace purchase...no beer involved.

1st pic is right before I cleaned it with extra soap from washing a truck.

2nd picture is after I washed and then cleaned with 0000 steel wool and mineral spirits. Note the discoloration on the lid is gone is as is the blue paint. Sadly the labels didn't make it...they start coming off when washed with the car wash stuff....removed them completely.

Found a craftsman ignition wrench and 3/4" combo wrench.

Still looking to see if I wax it will it look better. Might paint drawer inside bottoms due to some rust and possibly the drawer fronts.

Definitely will clean and paint inside bottom of the box. Mice messed up the paint...just surface rust for now.

I believe there was a member here that 3-D printed reproduction badges for these boxes. There are original ($$$$) and reproductions available on ebay. Just an FYI, because I figure those two holes where the emblem is supposed to snap into might bother you some day. ;)

Yeah I've seen that there is a GJ member that machined replicas but I have a 2 drawer 6500 series that can "borrow" the enblem from but that's probably going to my 12 drawer lower.

I was able to straighten up the middle drawer but need to tighten the left slide track. That poor drawer was deformed like someone stepped on the handle.

No pic as I too lazy to take one.

Edit: Meursault74 thanks for the information and knowing the missing badge was going to bother me.

This what I started with and 20260324_192306.jpg
Where I am now...the guide pocket for the slide is bent. I haven't cracked it on how to move it back just yet.

Was posted on Facebook marketplace as a Corbin tool box...it's a red and gray Craftsman that's been abused. Instead of drilling out the lock they drilled a hole in the lid. I was able to pick it up for $35 cash. Probably more of a parts box but might use it as a learning project so I can take on my other boxes with some experience and confidence.

Is there meeting for people with an addiction to these boxes? My wife would like to know. 😀

That’s a great find and the Hurst emblem is probably worth at least $40 by itself.

I would like to see if it can removed and saved. Maybe reinstall with magnets. Probably need help from Beerhippie on that.
I just checked online. It’s commonly available as a reproduction item, although it’s a glue on plastic part nowadays.

If yours is die cast metal ( from the 60s or 70s) then it’s a major score….not sure if they were plastic back then or not.

Started looking at the 3 drawer bottom cabinet. The old automotive tools were interesting. A timing light, couple of compression testers, remote start abs either a light that works off the battery or some type of timing light.

But the best piece was a vacuum tube tester so I can fix that black and white TV. The next best thing was a timing, dwell and points tester.

The box has a 12-64 build date on it. And I noticed the drawer slides were different.

Start to rain so put it away for the night.

I'd like to have a 10-drawer Power Kraft like that.
Guess those are more sought after than I knew. Probably going to a guy I coached football with back when the kids were in grade school. He's thinking of pairing it up with a 12 drawer Powr Kraft he's restored. So it's looking like it'll go to good home.

A recent get. I am pleased to have found a middle section. Also, note the upper box middle drawer handle position. A little less common than the handle being at the top.

I saw this at the Flea Market today.....
Was indeed tempted, but I ended up leaving it for one of you guys :)

I asked the seller if he had the bottom roller....if so, I might have ended up with them

He said.... It was broken so we recycled it :censored:

I didn't press him for what he meant by broken...
