The bass and catfish are avoiding me. I can see them along the bank but can’t get them to bite lately.

The bluegill are being cooperative though.
I got a handful before the forecasted thunderstorm and hail roll in this evening.

At least we are only in the half dollar size area…lol

I'm very jealous of your fishing exploits. This time of year my go to is a beetle spin, 2nd choice is the berkley panfish or minnow jarred bait on an ultralight! I need to visit the neighbors pond!

Beetle spin is my first choice as well but it hasn't been doing much for me lately.
I don't hit it very hard - I usually give it 20-30 minutes or until I catch a fish and then I quit for the day.
When you say jarred minnows - do you mean the real minnows preserved in a jar? I've never tried those.

Baseball size hail does not sound fun!
Fortunately we didn't see anything close to that - not sure we got any hail at all. Around 2am we might have gotten some small stuff. Our house has a metal roof so anything at all sounds like all hell is breaking loose. No damage that I can find - the vehicles were all inside.

@SouthernIllinois

These, my grandson brought some on an excursion, I have even used them in salt water surf fishing they perform better than expected. Tight lines!
Thanks - Never tried them but I will now.

Do you just fish them under a bobber and/or swim them with a jig head like you would a real minnow or worm?

Yes, under a bobber when pond fishing and when walleye fishing on a jighead, or even a beetle spin.
This is a catfish from a pond that the wife caught. It took one of the afore mentioned baits under a bobber, on a pink kids zebco 202, a couple years back.
Thanks - I ran a commercial boat for about the last 15 years but haven’t really pond fished since I was a kid.

Not long lining my 1/3 acre pond although I have thought about it…. Lol

Great thread, takes me back to when I used to go fishing - a hobby I used to enjoy with friends when we were growing up and that I just don't have the luxury of time for these days - good to see you enjoying it. There used to be a TV programme here in the UK which started in the late 1980s called 'Go Fishing'. The angler behind it was John Wilson, I used to get my bait and tackle from his shop in Norwich when I was a kid growing up there. Lovely bloke, always had time for the next generation and carefully and helpfully answered questions.

In the last photo I spotted something really cool - where did you get the custom keychain flight tags made up? They would be a really useful thing to get and apologies if you have answered this previously and I have missed it.
Amazon - they come from China and they take a month or better to come in but worth it in my opinion.

I learned that when we bought my Dad’s estate. I still have keys I have no idea what they go to but I’m afraid to throw them out.

Thanks for sharing these! I ordered a couple as a test and will be ordering more in the future. Makes labeling my tool bags super easy and professional looking.

If you have been following along, you might recall me mentioning I had a friend and neighbor that is a retired electrician who helped me and saved me a lot of money.

Yesterday I had the chance to at least partially return the favor. I put a new serpentine belt and tensioner pulley on his wife’s car.

The new Third Substitute pennant finally came in yesterday and I replaced the storm damaged one this afternoon.

For the Non-Navy folks, the black and white Third Substitute pennant is flown on ships and submarines whenever the Captain is absent, i.e he is not onboard.

I have flown it since Dad died since I figured he was the Captain of the place and he too is absent.

It’ll stay up as long as I am around.

Squaring up and making the Hobo Freight metal brake a little more good-er.

I have a new helper in the shed. We have a new Chief Mouser. A stray that was found by a friend with a collar so tight he was choking. They cut it off, tried to find his owners without success and fed him for awhile but they couldn’t keep him, so here he is.

He not much of a fan of the plasma cutter or welder though. We will work on that.

Awhile back, I may have mentioned I went to the funeral of a shipmate and barracks roommate that took his own life last year.

At that funeral a group of us that were on the USS Trepang (SSN 674) as young men vowed we wouldn’t wait for another funeral to get together.

I shot my mouth off and picked this coming weekend in Austin, TX as our next unofficial reunion.

All be damned if they didn’t take me seriously! About 16-20 of us are converging on Texas for the weekend.

The last time some of us were together, we were in our 20’s. Trying to relive that might be tough but we will give it a whirl.

I am headed down early. A good friend and another previous barracks roommate got out after his 6 year hitch, ended up with a geology degree and retired as an Offshore Toolpusher (head man on the rig) by his late 40’s.

Gonna go see him for a few days of poor decision making before the main meet-up.

If you’re gonna be stupid, you better be tough - guess I’ll find out how tough I am…lol

Took a detour driving from Tyler down to Austin. Sad.
Hard to imagine the events of April 1993 while you are standing there.

I also learned that this is in Axtel, TX - I guess they referred to it as Waco because it was the nearest big city but it's actually Axtel.
