What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Still chasing ways to improve efficiency on my garage door short of replacing it. Single pane that’s drafty- plastic seemed to help and the bubble out shows it’s holding air-looks trashy from outside.

Next I found these blackout shade that’s reflective on one side, black on other. Easily removable. Black heats up like no other (good for winter) then can flip it to reflective side for summer. Am I just chasing my tail???

Of note- I like the removable shade because I have my garage sim in there to cut down light.

Finished up replacing the chrome trim work on my old workhorse LS430 bumpers prior to her sale. Replacing this old friend is a hard thing to do but at 182k miles it is just time. Hope the 70k mile LS500 holds up as well. (I suspect it will not) I just can't let her go out to her third owner with peeling bumper trim. I plan buff that black paint one more time and see what the marketplace will bring for her.

Replaced the starter on my 97 Land Cruiser which I can say was easy to put on but nearly impossible to remove! I suggest taking the wheel off in the future. Truck had not been started for this reason for over a year. It popped right off with nothing so much as a rattle or hicup. Wonderfully built machines!

Also found time to install the last of the quarteround on the new wall. Hope to finish up painting this week and move some toys into this space.

Worked on the bed for the Brick again today.

Acid-descaling a Rinnai while I'm at it. Again.

You might be.
My garage door is west facing. I put foam insulation in the bays. Tinted the windows.
The garage still got to 95°+
Winter was pretty close to temp outside.
I finally replaced it with an insulated door. I think it was around $1500. It was a huge difference. It stays around 83°-85° even when the temperature reaches well over 100°.
Winters, the garage is nice and there winters it's very comfy.

Got the Interphone BT headset installed in my new Neotec 3. After researching newer options I decided to just use the stick-on mount.

We replaced our gate motor at work recently, and the old motor has been sitting in the shop collecting cobwebs. I decided that the cap covers would be better served covering the sketchy P&O start cap on my 1930s CF/Atlas drill press. A couple holes, and a quick coat of paint did the job.

Screwed with the RV water heater. Found a loose ground wire. Still fires up then dies out after a few minutes. New propane valve on order. Hard parts soaking in homebrew de-rusting solution.

Pulled out the battery charger and began recharging the battery on one truck so I could move it. Going to work on another truck today.

Pulled out an old Craftsman Rally tool box to look for a manufacture date. Discovered aka remember bottom drawer was bent and the right hand slide was off. Pulled drawer and used my poor but improving metal working skills to repair. Drawer now stays on slides and is held closed when the lid is down. This is a box my father gave me in high school so the emotional bond is high.

That's horrible!! Even worse than a fire.

No way - I'll take a mess over fire - that's end of project fatal damage ****. Buried stuff is just a mess.
Update - so far it looks like it's just the back part - where my tools and stuff were is still standing, just hard to get to... the mower, garden stuff, etc... never mind. But all in all, it looks like the bullet (or cannonball) slid past us again. It could have been a LOT LOT worse!!!

Assembled a couple of hf carts, stared at the side tray and figured out how to affix without drilling holes. Tried out the new old man hand gloves, they seemed to work-should free up over time.

I took the zinc plating a step further and added yellow chromate. It took some time to find the right mixture and figure out how long to dip the parts.

Ruined several nicely plated bolts in the process.

Wow!

Please divulge the details on the yellow chromate process!

How are the chemicals safely disposed after plating?

I had my house burn down in college. Not much comes close to the damage that does to your life.

Luckily, I've only had a shed burn when I was a kid. We got luck IIRC, nothing major past my bike was lost (arson, off-kilter kid around the corner ended up being the culprit of a few small burns)

I have to imagine fire & flood are the worst things.

I went down to the shop today to get my Mustang out. Battery completely dead. I did a little cleaning and put a charger on the battery. So hopefully I will take it out in a few hours.

Is it actually charging? Often those new-fangle electronic ones won't charge a dead battery while the older transformer type will.

My better half wanted an elevated flower/garden box for her birthday. I had some blue panels left over from the shop buildout, so I used them to make a box with a partial trellis. I'm not sure if I'll stain the wood or paint it, but Im sure she'll let me know which one I prefer shortly. 😁

Be the hero!

Put a shelf 12-16” down from the top to limit the soil depth. Then pull out shelves/doors below for storage of her gardening equipment.
Better yet, do the shelf thing as above, then use pots resting on the shelves. Your metal will last longer and changing the soil--which you should do every couple of years--will be much easier.

I broke down and picked up a Bamboo Labs P2S 3D printer and I have been on a tare getting things organized. IMG_2481.jpeg

I also printed some new ball valve blast gates for the dust collection system.
IMG_2477.jpeg

I also put up the Spray area curtains so I can spray the undercoating in the Puma wheel wells and under the back half of the car, then I can move to the next step of mounting he body to the pan in preparation for paint.

A miracle occurred today. For the first time in 20+ years, the entire top of my table saw & extensions were (mostly) cleared of stuff. It has been the HSD Magnet since I bought the saw in '84. I rarely need 52" to the right of the blade, but it's clear now to 49". Yay me. IMG_6666.jpeg
Then I cut up some plywood and Melamine board on the panel saw as well as on the table saw. Sadly some of the clutter has migrated to the drill press table, but at least that can be dealt with quickly. It generally serves as a staging platform for stuff going in to the house. The clutter on the band saw is mostly dust collection bits and pieces that will be deployed as soon as I complete a new outfeed table.

And yes, I have WAY more clamps than that.

Got the 🦇🌲charger on my Z28 and it still has a fuel feed issue. Tomorrow I check the soleniod. If not that then the fuel pump again. That is a project and half on a 3rd gen F body. Need to pull the exhaust and panhard bar for that.

On my 5sp Blazer bleed the brakes and didn't find air. Hmmm why is the brake fluid green??? Oh yeah water in fluid and copper corrosion. Didn't figure that out until after everything was reassembled and road tested...have to bleed them again. But my Capri bleeder wrench was awesome.

The zerk on the front lower ball joint I put in December won't take grease but it is pinned in by the lower control arm so I gave up.

Washed a truck with my free Ryobi pressure washer and new foam cannon. In true GJ fashion used the truck with the nicest paint for this. Oddly enough no paint damage was created. Always good to find new uses for equipment your neighbors set at the curb. He didn't understand carburetors and is happy with his new electric pressure washer. I cleaned out the jet and got it running great.

Man, im lucky to keep from gluing my fingers together just looking at woodworking projects. I love your idea, but I'll go from Hero to Zero trying to go all GJ on this thing, lol.
