Ready to use? For a paperweight maybe…

Best part about the forklift is the “ignition” key.

Actually I bought it because of the fork positioner/sideshift carriage. It will work on one of the other forklifts, thinking about using it on the one I haven’t picked up yet. Technically I have two more to get in the next couple weeks.

We are supposed to get some snow today, I love snow!

Bringing a few things over to the auction drop off, just like every spring, I wish I had spent more time getting things together for me. At least I have stuff to go for my Dad and one is a boat! I like those almost as much as snow.

Yup, ground clamp, but seemed like the perfect application.

I paid a grand for it thinking I was going to get back $500 for the battery, then strip it of components and scrap out the remaining 4 tons of forklift. It is worth significantly more now and if the battery recovers well enough, could be worth reselling. I really like the fork setup though, so if I did sell it that would not be going with it. I left the battery charging overnight, it was pretty low, all cells needed some water, but it drove fine, lifted fine, just worked. Usually when the batteries are junk it will act all good, then as soon as you try and do a function, it will cut out the electrical and throw a code. Would be cool to combine this one with the one I am picking up this weekend. That one is similar specs, but has pneumatic tires and that is great if you are outside on gravel. I will be at the Salvage Garage in a couple hours and you guys will definitely be the tenth to know.

Battery is still functioning, I did a bunch of driving around, lifting stuff, moving the forks around, it seems solid. The fork positioner/side shift is absolutely fabulous, I am hopeful that the other electric forklift I am picking up has similar size front tires and the same bolt pattern, the current ones are solid and they **** outside, the other one has pneumatic tires and will make a lot of difference. I am going to charge the battery again tonight, the charger I have was showing a red "check battery" light on it and I am not sure how smart it is, the voltage was at 39 volts when I disconnected it and after a few minutes it had dropped to 37.75, as far as I know that is close to where it should be as the cells are 2.1 volts when charged, the extra voltage is just a surface charge that will be present for a little while after the charger is disconnected. I have not mapped out all the individual cells yet, but I will probably take the time to do it and see where I stand as a baseline.

I found two more electric forklifts, only 20 minutes from my shop. They are going to be a little tougher to load, they have some auto hydraulic ebrake that I may not be able to release. Going to bring some booster packs and see what I can make happen. They are smaller ones, one has no battery, the other has no forks. The cool part is that one has a similar fork positioner/side shift setup. They are both much newer, the small one is in pretty good condition, for the price anyways. One is rated for 3k lift and the other is 3500 lift, both have three stage masts and lift to 187”, they are also three wheel style so they will turn amazing well. My price was low enough that if they are junk, I can rob parts from them, then send them to the scrap yard and still be ok, they also come with battery chargers. The chargers will most likely be three phase, but I am not sure yet.

Helped my Dad for a bit, then went and picked up a truckload of slightly used 2x6 boards, then helped my Brother set his septic tank, now I am going after a forklift I bought a long time ago, like before the snow. It is another electric forklift with side shift, needs a battery of course.

The two forklifts today seem to function well enough, got to test out the booster packs in series, made 36 volts and they were driving and lifting. The smaller one that I would like definitely has an issue with the fork positioner setup, they had the forks welded to each other and there was red tape on the lever that controlled it. I am sure it can be fixed and I am figuring that I can scrap and part the worst one out as it is pretty rusty. I need to clean up all the acid dust/powder and really setup some temporary batteries for a bit of a trial run.

A guy I know is a forklift mechanic. He converted an electric forklift of some sort into a lift going up into the attic of his garage.
It is definitely a great idea, if you build it properly it would be something that could easily pick a few thousand pounds.

I am picking up some more CNC stuff tonight plus a cool extrusion saw. Of course there is no room for any of it, so going to have to do some cleaning up/out this week. Also probably going to the auction, they have several box trailers and a few moving van style, I would like to buy one or two more of those. Of course they sometimes do the moon, but they usually only have one or two trailers not 20, regardless I have been looking at some on marketplace and they are averaging about $5k and a couple hours of driving, so if these are going to be close price wise, the savings on time, fuel, and tolls would be significant.

I have one currently, but it is not as nice as the one I want to keep. I have to investigate the fork positioner setup and see what is wrong with it. Hopefully nothing major, I suspect it has some seals that need attention, it was pretty oily around there.

You do have the coolest toys, but I have to ask. Now being 7-8-9 what ever forklifts deep, with the purchase price plus the time, fuel, tolls, etc to acquire them, wouldn't it be better to buy one brand new functional forklifts, instead of 9 sort of maybe forklifts?

For starters, one forklift can't do what I need, but the main issue is that buying a "new" forklift wouldn't be any fun...

I always wondered where old forklifts go to die...now I know.

Nope, nope that's not how it's done at the Salvage Garage. Talk like that will get you blocked on this thread Mr Troublemaker.

Fair, but if you add to many forklifts aren’t you afraid the continent is going to flip over. Weight an balance is important after all.
I live on the west coast and there have been reports of the land mass rising 1" the past week. :lol_hitti
