Lately I’m suffering from procrastination each night I sit at my CAD desk with a long to-do list of high priorities. Last night I drew this Koken sticker I really like so I could make 3D badges. Now I have the world’s first Koken 3D printer and tomorrow I’ll have some other fresh Koken equipment that Koken doesn’t even know they make yet.

Totally agree, especially on the wobble-fix where you are actually pulling on the socket to go from fixed to wobble.
These Koken locking extensions look pretty awesome:

I have both 1/4 and 3/8 Koken wobble-fix. Incredible quality and fit and finish. Zero play when locked up, using Koken sockets. I also have Snap-On wobble-plus and there is noticeable play at the extension/ratchet interface when locked up using Snap-On sockets.

The older Koken Wobble-Fix was mostly wobble only on a lot of sockets, even Koken built sockets. I bought both the 1/4 and 3/8 sets and don't like them one bit. Later after this I bought both sets in standard without Wobble-Fix. For me this was a great improvement. I threw the Wobble-Fix into the tool bin I never use or look at but keep just in case.

A month or so ago I picked up a pair of WP-100BJ Tsunoda pliers. They ended up not being made in Japan, which someone caught and brought up and the quality of the build is starting to show now. They have loosened up a fair bit and the adjustment button sticks at times. This isn't a complaint, but more a PSA so someone else doesn't make the same mistake. The price matches the quality and I will replace them at some point with something else. However, right now they are a great fidget device for my desk and have proven a small form pair of pliers has a place in my collection.

Hi GJ,

I have a Toyota Rav4 with engine A25A-FKS and it uses a Toyota spin on
Toyota oil filter part number 90915-YZZN1.

  • Do any Japanese manufacturers (doesn't have to be KTC) make an oil filter wrench specifically to fit this spin on filter?

I downloaded KTC’s catalog since I see their oil filter wrenches regularly posted here.
Their catalog shows wrenches for the canister type oil filters but I am looking for the type that fits a spin on filter.
I have had an 3/8 inch adjustable oil filter wrench for a long time, I’d like to try a Japanese spin on oil filter wrench. Thank you!

Had my truck for 20+ years but switched to a used Rav to have 4 doors, so I'll be changing the oil on the this for another 20+ years. Wish there was enough room to use my old rolling creeper like I always used with my truck. I don't want to drag the jack out, so I'm good with laying on a mat and doing as little preliminary tasks as possible to change the oil.

Some things will never old and will always be a good time :)

You are correct, I don't show that engine on the call out list:

I think the translation is what's confusing here. I think "cup type" means a "spin on" (to us Americans at least) and "paper filter" means "cartridge element":

1775485728290.png

That said, I'm wondering if you can match it up using the measurements only?

1775485560662.png

I have several of these and they are great.

I think ~ AVSA-064 will fit.
It shows interior measurement 64 and there’s a motiv brand oil filter wrench that advertises being 64.3mm and fits the Toyota spin oil filter 90915-YZZN1.

Most of the internet searches for purchasing a AVSA-064 are on Ebay and shipping from Japan, so if it doesn’t fit, I might be keeping it instead of returning it across the world. I will see what other members say too.
Thank you for the reply Steel Rain (y) .

No problem. I have the AVSA-063, if I had the 064 I'd send it to you to try before you buy it.

I would investigate if the same filter is possibly used on other Toyota engine applications that are listed. Also sometimes manufacturers will have alternative versions of a filter where they just add or subtract overall length but otherwise match. This can be harder to cross reference but there’s a lot of people obsessed with oil/changes and these scenarios are often documented because those people will like to upgrade to the filter with increased surface area or higher pressure relief or whatever the difference is.

Long story short, it wouldn’t surprise me if your filter is used in one of the engines that made the list, or if your filters relevant dimensions are shared with other Toyota filters (that made the list).

Good idea!
I did some research and read some various Amazon reviews for different off brands of 64mm oil spin on wrenches and the 64mm did not fit great on the Rav4 spin on filter. My internet searches revealed there Honda's use 64.5 mm spin on oil filter wrenches and the 64.5 does fit on my filter housing. However, I did read the 64.3mm does fit better. I found this via a Google search "just realized I have a vernier Caliper in inch/mm and can measure the toyota 90915-YZZN1 filter flats dimension. It is really close to 64.3 mm."
I also read the Rav4 filter 90915-YZZN1 is the same as the Tacoma filter 90915-YZZF1 but the F1 is longer and the same diameter.

I ordered a several new oil filters today to have on hand for the future, when they arrive I will take a caliper to a new filter. I already threw the old one away since it had oil all over it, so I will wait until the new one comes.
Thanks guys!

A fresh YZZN1 measures from 64.01 to 64.05 across the flats with my questionable digital calipers.
Thank you Mazdeuce!
I will measure my filters when they arrive in the mail and I will report back also.

Since you are using the same oil filters, I ordered quantity 17 today for $62 total (hit free shipping threshold) from the Naples, FL Toyota dealership's website, for comparison, the same 90915-YZZN1 oil filters are $7.50 each at my dealership.

It makes me consider if the interior measurement listed in the KTC catalog is 64mm and the measured is 64.01-64.05 is bigger then ~ maybe the KTC will not fit and be to tight.

Love your Koken sticker. If you ever sell them, I am in for two.

I can’t really go down that road.. once it stops being a personal project it starts getting into trademark territory. Risk is probably low, but as a business owner it’s not something I want to poke at.

Same!

Would love this one:
That serif font with thin strokes would probably turn out poor in a print. The larger Z-EAL would likely be acceptable, but the made in japan part would look bad unless the whole thing was scaled up to near dinner plate size. Those type of fonts are a nightmare for many production techniques.

As for oil filter removal tools, I use the ones offered from Motivxtools for my Toyota Tacoma and my wife's Toyota 4Runner.

They work very well and made solid to last.

Just go to their website and type in your make, model vehicle, etc. and make your selection.

I have the MotivX filter socket. Works on both Toyota spin on as well as their cartridge filter housing.

Motivx also offer a beautifully-made Toyota filter canister drain tool that works tons better than the nasty little plastic spout that comes with Toyota-Lexus filter cartridges.
Pro tip... Top Toyota techs recommend not draining the filter housing beforehand via that drain port and just remove the entire canister housing and let it drain as you loosen.

Yep, that's what I usually do on my Lexus RX's 2GR-FE. Still makes a mess. Unscrewing the whole kit and caboodle holding it in a shopping t-shirt bag helps.

OK -- hijack off. Let's put up one that might give Japanese tool fans a fun memory...

As a throwback-Thursday offering to the Tools of Japan, here's the metric socket set our family got c 1973-4 to work on our European cars (a Fiat and then an Audi). This set is made of some metal with about the consistency of cheese, but it was worked for many, many years. I had a second one that I took to university, replacing it around 1979 with Craftsman that I still have and use.

This shows how VERY far Japan has come in the last fifty years.

The handwriting is my father's. And note, the original 10mm sockets are still there!

I thought this is kind of cool. It was really cheap. ($3.80) I might get a few more in other size blades.

It is made by Vessel. I like the red handle better than the Vessel branded black handle.

It is very light. The handle is hard plastic with a slightly satin smooth touch. Not high traction or leverage, but plenty for most uses. It is relatively compact.

I like the coloration but at the same time I feel like its not the smartest coloration since it is not a VDE tool. It would not surprise me at all if someone used it under the assumption it was a VDE.DSC_0001.JPGDSC_0002.JPG

A few things I've put together thanks in large part to this thread.

@GeoBruin

sorry to dig up an old post…

I‘m looking to kit out my newly acquired Toyo ST-350 and was Inspired by your thoughtful use of space, specifically the wrench rack. I’m guessing it’s a custom 3-D print, but if it’s commercially available I’d appreciate a link. It appears to be the most space saving design I’ve seen.

You're right, it is 3d printed. I'm sure I can dig up the files if you have access to a printer (or better yet, a friend with a printer!)
