well, late 1995 started the 3rd gen with the 3.4

I'd still take a new 2nd gen over the 2026 version, and Toyota fixed the 3.0 headgasket under recall.

I had a couple customers working at the local Toyota dealership that almost made enough loot doing head gaskets back then to retire early! I seem to remember that they could do 2 a day if they really humped. And you didn’t have to be the original owner to get that repair done for free.

Busy weekend here, it started with new tool purchases showing up Friday night and a disappointment to immediately follow. 20260322_102742.jpgI bought a Dewalt flexvolt trimmer from the big Zoro dewalt sale and after unboxing it with my son, he wanted to try it out. Here was what I learned with this tool. Dewalt flexvolt batteries fit 20v tools, but the 20v batteries dont fit flexvolt tools. So I had a brand new tool but no way to use it. Did some quick looking around and got a 2 pack and charger which arrived last night. Going to turn the boy loose with it tonight and see how he does.

I also picked up a 5 gallon bulk brake clean and a Vaper spot sprayer pressurized canister. 20260321_092740.jpg
I used this setup for years in my old shop and much prefer it to the brake clean cans scattered all over the shop. They even had an orange one on the shelf, so it will be hard to miss it in the shop.

My mother in law had my boys, so yesterday we took advantage of the weather and went to the lake on a friends boat. Felt nice to get out with out the responsibility of my boat, cleanup, fuel and maintenance. We did have a friend who had some issues with his boat. He was taking on water from two cooling lines he forgot to hook to the exhausts, so the quickly shut the seacocks. After reconnecting the hoses, he started the boat and it overheated. He opened the seacocks back up, as the boat was hot but somehow it sucked the exhaust flapper in and pulled water into the exhaust and past a few open exhaust valves hydrolocking the engine. We pulled a plug and when he handed it me for analysis it was wet with water. We got them back to the ramp and boat loaded up. The rest of the day was nice once we got past that mess. I finally broke down and ordered some prescription sunglasses too, so hopefully I wont be miserable out here all summer.

Last project was moving my pressure washer shelf, the outlet was touching the wall making it where I could not add a hose to it. I added a second 2x6 behind the shelf unit to space it off the block. After washing 4 cars this weekend I am hoping to get this wash station setup and functioning.20260322_103522.jpg

I made a good bit of side income from buying those and getting them fixed by Toyota, then selling. More than a few people - I would tell them that Toyota would fix the 3.0 head gaskets for free and they didn't believe me. Some dealers would argue until I showed up with Campaign docs. LOL.

Most people didn't realize, as long as they were within the production range, if the service had NOT been done, the gaskets did not have to fail to have it done. Cheap way to get timing belt / tensioner / WP etc done as well.

My son was dying to try out the new electric weedeater. He did all his homework, and even did it correctly in a rush to come outside. I was surprised by how well it worked. I used my parents Stihl battery powered unit a few years ago, and was really disappointed by how weak it was and how it didnt want to cut. This thing was powering through some thick grass without missing a beat. I think it will do just fine.

I got the dewalt 20v and it does good for residential stuff. If I was doing landscaping again I wouldn’t want to use it in the thick stuff, but normal weekly yard cutting it does good.

I have the DeWalt 20 volt version, and agree it does very well.

I almost went with one of the 20v versions but was afraid it wouldnt quite have the power I need for the amount of property I have. Im not sure how the battery life will be on the flexvolt, but I was very happy with the variable speed trigger, it also has a high and low setting on it, not sure yet if thats speed or power? But on low its been great. My poor Stihl is a smoking mess, I think it might be time for a piston and rings after 16 years of heavy use. That trimmer has been the only outdoor power tool I have owned that has put up with being worked like a mine mule and just started to have some issues last year. I hope this will be a worthy replacement.

We picked up a sentra for my buddy that had an awful exhaust leak after we got it jumped off and running. He hadnt mentioned it but after we got it up in the air I could see a crack in it so we decided to pull it out and weld it up. I realized today after I pulled the welder out that it has been almost a year since I used it. 20260325_165808.jpg
I cleaned up the crack and promptly proceeded to blow right through after I misjudged the metal thickness. So after putting some bubble gum welds on there to fix the blow out,20260325_170655.jpg I ground it down and found one more small crack. Got that welded up and back into the car. Jeff is finishing it now so hopefully its nice and quiet.

I got my bike down today and was going to swap back to my carbon wheels since I got new tires on them. I got one bead seated and brought home a setup from work to fill them. 20260325_152753.jpg20260325_152756.jpg20260325_152917.jpg
I grabbed a 50ml syringe and a loop as we call them in the ER which is basically just a small extension that goes from your iv to the syringe. Sucked up a syringe full of sealant and the end of the loop fit perfectly into the presta valve. Filled it perfectly without spilling any. Reinstalled the valve, aired up the tire, and installed it on the bike. Spun it around to distribute the sealant well and proceeded to seat the front. Its been a fight with a ton of dawn to try and seal the bead enough to pop it. Still not done, and not happy a bike tire is kicking my ***.

Last was a new tool that showed up yesterday. 20260326_064832.jpg
This is a copy of the trailing arm bushing tool that is used on old Hondas to push out and install the rear trailing arm bushings. The original ones made by Schley tools were expensive and mediocre at best in how this whole setp works so I grabbed a knock off tool to get this job done on the ancient del sol. Looking forward to getting that one out of the garage as soon as parts hit.

These new battery operated trimmers have come a long way I've got the Milwaukee one that also has the hedge trimmer and pole saw attachments its great. I imagine your dewalt one is similar.

Looks like your son is going a great job on the yard work, I remember my dad got me doing the lawn mowing and weedwhacking at about 8 years old!

And I’m willing to bet that when the topic of pay came up for the yard work, you probably heard the same thing I heard….. “You like to eat, right?!”!!!

nice infusion skills. Those 50mls are hard to come by. Even when I was still in the field it was like a white whale. My guess is that ppl would take them and use them to inject butter into their turkey. I can't remember the last time I used one of those.

Had a chance to kick back a bit yesterday, and by kick back that meant house projects for my wife. She purchased a new tv for our living room, so while I had some help I got our old tv down and carried upstairs. We took a trip to guitar center and Best Buy since they are next to each other and got the new tv home. New tvs are awesome. So much lighter and easier to handle, but of course the mount location doesnt work with this new tv. So after measuring and relocating the wall mount I got it to a happy place and got it on the wall. I have some cord management to do, and looking for a soundbar mount to get the bar off the mantle, but it turned out nice. Wife and my older son got it all programmed, and I was even able to integrate my Samsung soundbar to work with the new tv remote. I bought the soundbar for the wife for Christmas, to match the Samsung tv we had. I tried for 2 weeks to get it to operate off the tv remote and cpuld never get it to work. So she is happy its all back to one remote, and she really likes the voice control on this tv.

With wifes project handled, I had a guy stop by and relieve me of my fiberglass topper. My truck is now naked and ready for the new topper when it arrives. 20260328_155545.jpg
While its apart, there is a plan to deal with the failing paint on it. The areas where it has come off are going to get sanded and primered, and I am going to attempt to wrap my truck. Screenshot_20260329_084430_eBay.jpg
Here is the color I am thinking, I like the matte look, I need to measure out my surface area and see how much I would need to order.

Last thingnfrom yesterday was replacing a heater connection on a VW heater hose. He ran a screw into the broken ****** to get it here. 20260328_193246.jpg20260328_193244.jpg
It worked well enough, but now his car is mixing oil and coolant after driving it to me instead of him having it towed. That action has probably totalled this car.

The CC has blown a headgasket, and the owner wants me to dump some kind of internet voodoo stop leak into it. I told him I wouldnt spend another penny on it but whatever.

The dewalt got a workout yesterday. Did pretty good and got most of the yard done before the battery lost charge. I finished up and charged both batteries for next week.

A kid at my local advance has set me up with his sister who works at a local wrap company. I spoke to her today about buying the wrap locally from her. She has my color in stock and is going to send me a swatch and make sure theres enough to do my truck. Looking forward to this project.

Lastly, I got home today and my wife said the hot water wasnt working. I checked the heater and the flame light was off meaning the burner wasnt firing. I checked the gas meter, gas company hasnt shut us off, stove worked. One problem solved. I checked the check valve that gave me trouble last year, all good there. I pulled the igniter and cleaned it, but then it cracked so I have one coming. It looks like my recirculation pump may have failed. Im going to pull it out and make sure its good. Chat gpt helped me diagnose it, since Navien will only let licensed plumbers access their tech support for diagnosis info.

Chatgpt doesnt quite get the win but it did point me in the right direction. Last night I pulled the recirculation pump and verified it as good on the bench. There is a valve on top of it that I opened and found the float inside slowly decaying. The small tab on top had broken, so I knew I would need to replace that. I put it all back together and reinstalled it. Still no flow code on the heater. Got up early this morningnand decided to pull the flow sensor to test it. 20260331_070855.jpg
I found it was jammed with a tiny piece of plastic from that valve. I pulled the plastic from the sensor turbine, reassembled it all and turned it on. Same damn code! Then I realized I hadnt turned the water back on 🤬. Once I turned the water back on, it made some noises and then the burner light lit up and glorious hot water began to pour out of the sink next to me! This whole thing still leads to Chats suggedtion that I need a recirculation pump, but only because that valve is not available separately. While using Chat got me close you still have to have some common sense and be willing to think through the problem and not just blindly throw parts at it. My plumber wasnt even sure about diagnosing the heater and said he just suggests replacement, which was not very confidence inspiring in him. But we have all seen this before, the scanner said o2 sensor was bad so I replaced it, but the check engine light is still on. My wife is now happy, she relies heavily on hot water with the salon, and she didnt have to cancel her busy day today, I am picking up a pump today, and we can all have nice hot showers this evening!

you think the piece of plastic was the broken tab you found?

I had an issue similar to yours but with a dishwasher. the label washed off a jar in the dishwasher and it jammed the cutter up in the drain line. I had to basically disassemble it completely to get to the label and remove it. All was good after removing the jam!

This white portion of the air valve here has a small tab on top on it which a small rod and spring pass thru. When I removed the recirculation pump and disassembled the original valve I found the tab was broken and it all spilled out of there. I found a second piece and attempted to glue it all back together but it was missing a part. It worked and honestly would have probably been fine, but I felt much better after replacing both the igniter and the air valve. The good news was the air valve was available separately and I did not have to buy the whole pump.

Started two projects this morning and actually completed one of them. Half of my wrap showed up yesterday, so I decided to start prepping my truck for wrap. My grandfather had this truck pinstriped to match his camper and the stripes gotta go. 20260404_071804.jpg
I hit it with the eraser wheel and was happy to see how quickly it was cutting it down. 20260404_072158.jpg
It does make quite the mess though. 20260404_074212.jpg
This is the top of my truck. I am going to sand these down and spray some primer in there to smooth it out. Thats the next project once all the stripes are gone. Next up was a trip to home depot to grab a few items for my other project 20260404_094444.jpg
Finally found the right combo of fittings to plumb my pressure washer station. Since I dont have water to my shop I still have to run water from my house hose bib. I picked up a hose to dedicate for that. 20260404_111538.jpg
I went super basic on it, and ran out of hose holding clamps to lock it in place. I havent decided on any type of filter setup but it should easy to add on later. I also finally got the instagram foam out of my foam cannon! I used carpro reset, but I probably added 2 oz instead of the recommended amount to the cannon bottle. 20260404_111501.jpg
I got my car scrubbed up as well as the wifes car too. I missed a trip to get rid of my sons old mattress along with recycling a ton of cardboard, just ran out of time. Im also pretty sure my pressure washer is toast as we left for a wedding and when I got home I heard it running. It typically only runs if there is demand from pulling the trigger and thw water was shut off to it, but I forgot to hit the switch and turn the power off. Hopefully its not smoked, but we shall find out tomorrow.

Still slow going on the truck, peeling away on those pin stripes as time allows. I did grab some fishing line and cut off one of my emblems yesterday. 20260409_184211.jpgLight pressure and letting the line do the work was the key here.

I sent an email off last night looking for some progress on my truck camper, nothing exciting there, still awaiting being cut out according to my rep. Its all good, gives me time to finish up some of the bigger jobs on the truck like this wrap and rebuilding my fuel bowl.
Jeep is done and has all 4 gears again after replacing the solenoid pack. Now I can sell it, my buddies son was wanting it bad but now hes ghosted me on it. Oh well, it will sell quick now that its working correctly.

Nice thread you got going. Only on page 7 but doing my best to catch up.

For parts and part numbers of parts for your Acty (or any Japanese vehicle) have a look at the following website. I used them for my Nissan Patrol and now for my Mitsubishi Pajero/Shogun.

Yoshiparts is also good for Japanese parts, but they don’t do the Acty.

Thanks for the info!

Today there was a huge cars and coffee put on by the Porsche/ Audi dealer I worked for ages ago. It takes up and entire mall parking lot, wrapping around the mall completely. I dont typically go to these events but was up at 6 and decided to check it out. I took the Acty and there were a few other kei trucks there along with a ton of other Japanese imports, muscle cars and a large assortment of other stuff.

After getting home from cars and coffee yesterday, I did some more debading and pin stripe removal.20260412_094416.jpg20260412_094419.jpg20260412_094421.jpgfishing line to cut that big f250 badge off and then a quick rinse. Just need to hit the pinstripe areas with a scuff pad and rubbing alcohol to get it perfectly smooth and I will be one step closer to wrappingit. Next I pulled the mower out and started on the yard while waiting for my buddy and his son to come by for the Jeep. I sprayed all the pollen off the jeep and dropped the top for him. I showed him how to remove the doors and how to resecure the top. 20260412_124427.jpg
He was so excited, its always fun to be a part of a big moment for others, and a kid getting a first car is a big one. After he took off I finished mowing, only to get a call from his dad that it wont shift from park. All I could think was that the shift solenoid pack had messed up, bit as we talked thru it I asked him to look at the shift cable end. I knew the JKs had issues with the 4wd shift cable ends breaking, and the transmission shift cable had done the same at the trans. It probably didnt help that I had just removed it to do the solenoid pack. I called my parts guy and paid for a shifter bushing, he sent the boy to get it and they had it together in no time. I finally finished mowing, and decided the knockoff batteries arent gonna cut it here. They are going back and ordering real dewalt flexvolts. After cleaning up the yard stuff, my last project for the day was dinner and firing up the burrito factory for my wife. Made her 30 plus breakfast burritios, should be good for a few weeks.

I got my first report back on my camper build yesterday evening with a few pics of build progress.IMG_20250603_145342.jpgTop of the RTT IMG_20250603_145351.jpgtop of tent going together with headliner,DINGTALK_IM_855144628.JPG.jpg
This is my truck topper sides cut out and awaiting being up to form the topper. Its not moving as fast as I had hoped, but I am still excited for it to show up. My matte black wrap showed up Monday, so I now have all my supplies for wrapping the truck. I am going to try and get the rest of the truck prepped in the next week or so. Lots of cleaning under seals, bed rails, fenders etc. Needs to be super clean to get good adhesion. I am really excited for this project to begin.

Another busy weekend here, I started early Saturday morning with a trip to pick up a car I was given. Its been sitting for a long while, Jeff's daughter turns 16 in a frw weeks so I gave it to him so she can have a ride. 20260418_091452.jpg20260418_091858.jpgit only kinda snapped one of the boards.

With the car delivered to him and the trailer returned to my buddy, I hit the shop for a bit to awaken this beast 20260418_105405.jpg
Unforunately, I think the boat is going to be leaving us soon. I dove into dewinterizing it, startong with the strainer and exhaust manifold crossover hoses20260418_110441.jpgthen to the stern to install the plugs for the heat exchanger and raw water pipe. 20260418_112651.jpg
With those in I reinstalled the ballast bags, got down some of our gear and got it setup for a test ride to make sure its all good to go. I also had a friend contact me about buying his boat. He inherited a small lakefront property and they are selling it. The boat is a 24ft pontoon boat with a brand new 115 hp Yamaha on it. 20260419_112614.jpg20260419_112626.jpg
While its definitely in need of cleaning after sitting on a lift all winter, its a killer deal andnif we dont like it, it will make money when I sell it. Plan is to go take it out tonight for a test drive, and work on getting it off the dock lift since the water hasnt come up all the way yet.

Last thing for the weekend was new flexzilla hose for my pressure washer setup. 20260418_185602.jpg
The crappy hoses most pressure washers come with is enough to drive you insane with the constant kinking. I am hoping this one does not kink like they advertise. Quick connect ends are swapped over and awaiting a test tonight.

Spent some time fishing with my son Saturday afternoon, was a great day to get out and enjoy being outside.

Did some house work this past weekend, part of which included finishing out the room above the salon. Last weekend I hung a tv up there, yesterdays activities included cleaning off my safe to move it, adding some juntion box extenders to move the outlets out flush with sheetrock, and some general cleanup of the area. I have some sheetrock work to repair, and then I can finish the trim and touch up some paint, add a couch and the room will be done until I add cabinets this fall.

Mike, I was thinking the same thing, but keeping a boat is keeping a swimming pool out of my backyard currently that my wife has been pushing for since we moved in. I would rather buy a pontoon boat and never use it than maintain a pool. The plus side is that I can take a pontoon out fishing without constant worry about my nice boat being covered in fish slime and thats time with my boys that I truly look forward to.
