I feel the pain on the wife who wants a pool... fortunately the covenants with the HOA require inground which makes it $100k to start....in a climate it's useful for maybe 5 months.....so she recognizes the folly of it. And the fact there is no actual beach worth a damn anywhere near Omaha keeps me from owning a boat! Location is key, in this case to saving money. Lol

If it's any consolation, I own a boat, I live 14 miles from the Allegheny River boat ramp that I would be ok with leaving my truck at, and I only went once last year. I'm scheduled to go to the river in 14 days to do some small mouth and walleye fishing with a buddy. So, to get ready for it I had to get 2 new batteries for the trolling motor since one of them was dead to the point of not holding any charge. You know those marine batteries only have a 12 month warranty? I think this Interstate battery that died was only 15 months old so no warranty. Instead of dropping $230 for another interstate battery, I was able to get 2 Duracell marine battery Group 27 from Sam's club for $220 both and they are made locally at the East Penn battery facility who also makes Deka batteries. They also have a 12 month warranty so same benefits as the interstate battery without the high dollar price tag.

Oh and I have an on board three bank trinkle charger for all three batteries and it's working as it's supposed too. I think I'm going to look into storing my batteries indoor after the summer cause paying $220 a year for batteries is not financially smart.

Pontoon time is time well-spent. Fishing, swimming, leisurly cruises. All good stuff that works towards relaxing instead of the usual boat stress.
I can vouch for the Flexzilla powerwasher hose. Mines been awesome.

I agree with XJ- if you are stressed out on a pontoon, you are doing it wrong. I grew up with a second or 3rd or 4th hand 24 foot pontoon that had a second floor, a water slide (that you had to haul your own water up in a 5 gallon bucket) and a 6 horsepower evinrude from the 70s. The boat was just two empty decks with the captain's station. We used plastic lawn chairs, in any configuration you wanted! We would routinely have 6-8 adults and at least that many kids, all having a good time.

That boat didn't go anywhere fast, and that was the point. we would tootle around the lake and listen to good music, drop anchor and float or swim, or just take a couple of the plastic chairs off and sit in the shallows. We caught thousands of fish. We picked blueberries off of the islands.

We had well over a million dollars worth of fun on that boat that I bet my father didn't pay $500 for!

When my parents sold their cottage, the boat got pulled out of the lake, and put on blocks in the woods behind their house. It sat there for 20 years, and in 2022 when I bought my house, I rebuilt the deck and added a gangway, and now use it as my floating dock.

We got tired of the hustle of towing trailering ect of boats or 5th wheels. Poured money into our back yard and built a pool several years ago. The kids still enjoy it. Honestly its not too difficult to maintain. I've been the pool boy at my house since I retired in 2024. My pool tells me if im low on salt. I can check my water myself but I usually just take it to Leslie's pool supply. They test it for free and tell me what I need to add. I used to get my water tested very month now its about every 6 months. Its not rocket surgery. If you got the time or the slave labor (kids) its not bad just saying. Even in CA with the warm temps its fairly EZ.

We are going to go ahead on the pontoon, we picked up a pool membership in a closeby neighborhood for the wife and kids, and I am going to sell the wake boat once I get these small gelcoat repairs knocked out. Its a lot in one week and had been super busy with my real job. I got a call yesterday and was ask to be on a board of directors for a county EMS service. I felt pretty honored to be offered the spot and its a feather in my cap for the ole resume. My corporate bosses are in town this week and I mentioned it to my boss during a ride along yesterday and the response was " why the hell did you not tell me this sooner?!!"

Thats not the response I was expecting, but she wants to use it as an example of how it shows I have built a trusted relationship to be asked to take on this role. I didnt want to say anything because I hate being complimented and like to keep my head down and work. I had all the self confidence in the world when I was wrenching full time, but it took a huge hit when I transitioned into nursing because it was such a reset. Its taken years to get some of it back, but things like being recognized make me super uncomfortable. Now I have to present this on a national call in a month and its made what seemed like a cool opportunity now is filling me with dread over having to talk about how we should be more engaged and involved in our outreach. 😵‍💫

Good on you for being a part of your community's EMS response team. I am grateful for those that give of their time and talents for this responsibility in our communities.

Back in the mid-90's in our previous city, I was part of their emergency response program. Not in terms of EMS, but in terms of response in times of an emergency such as natural. I had gone to various city council meetings and actually worked on several of the city council members vehicles and they asked me to be part of their response program in terms of having tools and equipment in which to assist with getting things repaired during an emergency if the need were to arise. I had chain saw, generator, welders, etc. so I think that was the reasoning. Fortunately, we never had an actual emergency that required my services, but I found it interesting going to the meetings and being involved in the discussions. I really learned a lot.

Thanks guys! With no longer being in the ER helping folks in my community, I have been looking for a way to serve and make positive change to benefit folks who work in these high stress environments. This is the second board I have been asked to serve on, the first is for a local community college's EMS program. I look at these as a way to bring positive change to both the education EMS receives and as a way to help a small county EMS service grow. A year ago I never would have thought I would have opportunities to do things like this, so I count it as a huge blessing!

Congrats! That's a pretty big deal. Sounds like your pretty busy. Your community college board, I assume has a paramedic program, Just curious if you do have one many students do you usually seat? Our paramedic program down stairs usually seats about 25 - 30 depending on returners.
The EMS board sounds exciting, were in the transition from AMR leaving the County 911 contract and its going to a smaller private company. A lot of the local fire depts are excited. They've been purchasing ambulances and equipment for the last 3 years. Im not necessarily sure if the fire depts can run it better. My former dept can even staff their stations... let alone more ambulances. Im so glad Im not involved in that headache.

Our local Community College has a A.A.S. degree in Emergency Medical Services and less credits required certificate in Paramedic. I think they had 10 EMS grads last May, not sure on cert numbers.

We have AAS degree as well with a BA in Emergency Medical Services on the horizon. The medic program is almost 24 units. It puts a pretty good dent toward it.

The college I am attached to does, EMT, Aemt and medic classes as well as RN to EMT wilderness resuce and a ton of other classes. The medic program runs thru about 20 per semester in rotating stages of the program. I had multiple paramedic students in my ED for clinicals and loved challenging their knowledge and pushing them to expand their minds. Teaching others is something I really enjoy doing and I love how even just the right question gets their gears turning and makes them stop and think about how to answer correctly. AMR is our county 911 provider they split with Rural metro who was the county fire provider last year this is a small county service North of Knoxville by about 40 miles whose board I will serve on.

I got another update on my truck last night, and got a quick walk around video of my RTT! Here you can see it is partially opened, but it shows how the had sides fold down to store Screenshot_20260424_065254_WhatsApp.jpgScreenshot_20260424_065259_WhatsApp.jpg
Im getting excited to see the rest come together and hoping it gets crated and sent out soon.

Congrats on the board membership! I understand not wanting to talk about yourself..... but an unfortunate lesson ive learned these last few years its rare for others to advocate for you if you dont advocate for yourself in a job setting.

This past weekend was an interesting mix of activities and work in the shop. Nothing good, a couple of diag issues with one being a suburban that wont share any data with me and the other the VW CC that needs a headgasket but got internet snake oil instead and now runs poorly. 🤪

I tried again to go out and test drive this pontoon boat Friday but water levels arent near high enough to get it off this lift. Ironically, my buddy who is selling this boat text me to ask if Yamaha jet boats were good boats. Said his wife wants a boat still, just not this one. This means hes gonna drop a chunk of change on a perfectly good boat that will sit unused because all their time is spent at the mx track racing. I guess my 4 year plan will now include buying a jet boat from him in the near future. 🤣

In shop news I have a big project this week as we pull the engine from a Maserati Ghibli for replacement.20260427_183424.jpg20260427_195511.jpgplenty of room to pull this beast out.

I also worked out a deal for a nice Robinair 134a AC machine from my old shop buddy who let me use his for evacuation and recharging systems. I prefer this setup so I can recover with a bit less hassle. He had ghosted me over selling this machine last year after he closed up shop but he bit when I reached out last week so Im gonna grab it before he changes his mind.

Monday on the way home I noticed a couple of guys on the roof of my grandfathers house next door tearing off shingles. Seemed a bit odd, the house has been vacant since he passed in 2021 and almost 4 years since the new owner bought it. It was gutted and the left open to the elements with an opening an elephant could walk thru comfortably where a sunroom was removed. Yesterday morning when I left the house I noticed not only were the shingles gone, but so was the roof decking and the trusses! This morning I stopped and took a couple of pics and realized the whole back of the house is now gone as well. 20260429_075706.jpg20260429_075712.jpg
Its sad to see it come down. My grandfather built that house, and the addition and the garage over his life. Rebuilt it all again after a fire in 1995 took out the shop. This means my time with limited neighbors is coming to an end. Once this guy builds out this house, I have to start worrying about my next door neighbor who had mentioned selling the back half of his property so he didnt have to deal with it. Im starting to feel the squeeze here and I dont like it.

Last night we got the engine out of the Maserati, it has studs connecting the engine and trans together, which added a bit of difficulty to separating the two. We were able to remove it with out removing the hood which was nice as well. 20260430_193301.jpg20260430_193255.jpg20260430_193258.jpg
Next up will be clearing the engine bay and then swapping the turbos to the new engine. The salvage yard that sent this engine only damaged one breather hose and cut one coolant hose that we will have to swap out. Im pretty impressed with them taking the time to somewhat carefully remove this engine.

Today I was finally able to get the pontoon boat running correctly, a new set of spark plugs and a length of fuel line ran into a 5 gallon can solved the issies. I am now the new owner of a 24 ft pontoon boat. We have a spot to keep it at a local marina splitting a houseboat slip with a buddy since there isnt a trailer, but I am looking for a trailer.

Yesterday I had some free time in the afternoon before my pontoon adventure, so I slid this bookshelf we were trying to find a home for into the closet downstairs. I slid the bookshelf up to the doorframe, and slid a shelf onto the top to make it appear like it was built in. 20260501_160818.jpg20260501_160822.jpg
I went ahead and emptied out my cabinet of all my bourbons and my wife made a tray in the middle with a sheet of aluminum foil to mock up a setup. She also threw a light in there. Theres nice seating in here, a big window, and a huge vaulted ceiling, so its a nice space to come sit and relax in.

I have been continuing on with my truck and stripping the pinstripes off. I have also debadged the truck and getting ready to fill a few deep gouges and the spot where the paint began to separate from the bed. I am hoping once we complete the Maserati swap I can take a month off, get my truck wrapped and hopefully get the jeep body off and spray the bedliner into it so I can get on with assembling it. Im sick of looking at it sitting there in a million pieces.

I like the setup! We started renovating a front room in our house for the same reason. Got stalled cause we cant agree on seating though. Unfortunately for my wife im a visual person and I get images in my head that fixate on, that I cant quite communicate.

That bookshelf slid in great! And that Maserati swap looks "fun".....what shelled the engine....lack of oil?

The coolant reservoir cracked and it lost coolant and overheated. They had continued driving it until it blew a headgasket. With limited repair information available and parts availability being spotty and untimely, we decided to go with a used engine and swap it out. Not terrible actually, biggest issue so far was the way the wiring harness runs thru the engine bay.

Saturday I went and picked up our new to me pontoon20260502_174414.jpg
Got it to the marina with no issues. Sunday I started cleaning out all the mess and junk my buddy left in there. I steam cleaned all the underseat cubbies and the vinyl. 20260503_135421.jpg20260503_135416.jpg
You can see the mildew on the vinyl. It has stained the vinyl so I have some stronger cleaner that will be here tomorrow to try and get it clean. I scrubbed the outside aluminum andthe wife wants me to wrap it. Im thinking a solid color would be best., but I really need to focus on gettimg it clean enough to make her happy first.

We got the Maserati engine back in tonight. No time for pics because it was a pain on the ***. It has studs to secure it to the transmission which made it difficult to line up. I bought and engine load leveler to help but even with that we had a hard time getting the angle right. Eventually we got one stud close enough to go in the hole and we were able to pivot around that stud to get it together. When we got it I gave it one big push and it seated perfectly.
20260504_205008.jpgwith it back in the car we were able to lift the car and sit it down onto its mounts. Took longer to get it in than I anticipated but glad its in, now its just finishing up the job.

Maserati is done and running great, however, my buddy has more cars for me to deal with and my plan was to take the month of May off to get all my stuff done. Will knock out the low hanging stuff and make some time to get started on my projects.

I pulled the boat out today and gave it a quick spray off inside and out. 20260509_125632.jpg
While it was out, I went ahead and finished the expansion joint filling amd caulking under where the boat sits. The whole shop is done now, except for a couple spots where I ran out.

One more tube on the way will be enough to finish up the rest as well as fill in a few low spots. Its been nice having it all filled in as it makes sweeping out the shop much easier.

We took the boat out late today and had dinner on the water. There was a huge 58 ft yacht that pulled into the marina while we were eating and then did an amazing turn around using his bow thruster. Its tight for a boat that size in the and he nailed it perfectly. A guy I worked with who lives at the bar at this restaurant said a buddy of his had just purchased that boat and spent the day running it up river from Chattanooga TN. Its about an hour and a half by car but 8 hours or so by water.

My son woke me up at 6 this morning because he wanted to go fish for a bit. We went down to the marina and I cleaned the pontoon while he fished the dock.i ordered some nice stainless cupholders to replace the nasty yellowed plastic ones 20260510_071234.jpg20260510_071242.jpg20260510_071311.jpggot it looking much better. Miracle mist was the product of choice today for trying to get the mildew stains out of the vinyl. Worked the best of all the products I have tried so far.

I'll have to try that miracle mist for the mildew. While I was fishing last week I noticed the mildew on the boat. Along with the boat cover needs a good cleaning!! It seems the shaded area it was parked at has created a lot of mildew on it. But first I need to fix the leak temporarily for the summer. Wintertime I will pull the boat in the garage and fix it properly and possibly replace the foam on the starboard side since I suspect it's waterlogged from the leak.

The past week was busy! I have prep for National EMS week next week which includes me putting on multiple lunches and coordianting events for my 4 hospitals. Luckily I have some help from the folks who do provider outreach for my hospitals who have stepped up to help me since its hard to be in 4 different places at once all week long.

Monday was another trip around the sun for me and my wife hooked me up as usual. She got me two awesome Wusthof knives for the kitchen, and the mother in law brought me over a nice barrel pick Makers Mark. 20260512_211839.jpgLooking forward to using all 3 of these.

I got to dissect pig lungs/ heart again this past week Tuesday with my younger son at school. I have been looking forward to this all year. 20260512_104332.jpg20260512_133019.jpg
Huge heart there we get to open it all up and I even got to teach some of the assistants a few things.

We took the pontoon boat out for an evening cruise last Monday and I got the wifes seal of approval on the cleanup with the miracle mist. Next up is trying to source a trailer to pull it out and get it home for some upgraded flooring. I Pulled my Garmin GPS/ fishfinder from my fishing kayak and I am going to install it on the pontoon for an upcoming trip downstream. Each year there is a huge fireworks show down near FT Loudon dam. Its about an hour south by water for us. The last few years I have naviagated us back while trying to carefully avoid logs and staying in the channel etc. Show is over about 1030 at night so it is plenty dark and I used to use a light and find channel markers and work off those to get back home safely. This year I plan to map my trip down mark waypoints and then on the way back I just have to follow my line from earlier in the day home.

Operation spruce up my truck is well underway. Yesterday I picked up a 40 20 40 front seat set to replace the awful bench seat setup. The console doesntmatch but the guy wanted another 300 dollars for the matching console. They are all getting covers so it wont matter any ways. 20260516_153805.jpg
The seats were in great shape. The console was dirty though so it got steamed and then hit with the mini vortex 20260516_154353.jpg
The amount of dirt that thing blew out of the seats was amazing. I pulled my bench out 20260516_170517.jpg 4 bolts and one electrical connection 20260516_171259.jpgthen I hit it with the pressure washer and a brush im my drill to clean under the seat thats never been removed. I had to tap 2 of the bosses for the seats. 20260516_174818.jpg
20260516_180402.jpg
And then the seats bolted in perfectly. I am one bolt short, so a trip to the hardware store will take care of that. This drivers seat is powered and I need to run a 12v wire to it. I used my power probe to get the seat set where I want it for now. I need to order either a westherpack kit tocreplace the 3 pin connector or find a pin to add power from a fused location. All in all I am super happy with the seat upgrade, looking at some covers for the seats. Truck topper is coming along per my last conversation with them and its ready for powdercoating. I have got to get in gear with the wrap job before it arrives.

Nice seats! You going to fill the change holder?

When I used to deer hunt, I would study the lungs, heart, and other parts of the deer. It’s always amazing how organs work and what they look like.

Doubtful on the change holder. Probably wont use the cd organizer inside either! I would like to see if its removable and print a cupholder to attach there.
Happy belated!
Thank Marc. I quit celebrating them, but I did take the day off and was rewarded with being behind all week.🤣
