Was lucky and found a Craftsman badged 05196 swivel base vise at the local dump! Cleaning it up now. Only issue is the swivel base center bolt is missing. Does anyone have the size and pitch on the bolt? Could have a machine shop make it, or search for one. I saw a Rock Island center bolt for sale at $75 ( seems a bit pricey) and it did not have exact measurements. any help on this is appreciated.

I have a 05196 I will measure. I will tell you I had a Rock Island vise that was missing the center swivel bolt. (Rock island is the suspected manufacturer of your vise if you didnt know) I was able to order a regular bolt 7/8-14 X 1-1/2" and an 1-1/4" x 5/8 press drill bushing from McMaster-Carr for about $30. It fit perfectly. I will see if I can get the thread pitch and measurement when I get home if no one else has answered. Welcome to GJ.

Ha! well that's along the lines of even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile!!
Fact it's been 10 years puts a little dent in the "good luck" definition, but I'll take!!
Thank for the feedback on the bolt and bushing size. Let me know on the pitch. Huge help!!

Sorry I forgot to check that bolt on Tuesday. It is 7/8-14. Here is a picture of the setup I have next to the 05196 bolt. I dont think the new bolt is too long but it would be easy to trim down.

Bought this one today…picking it up tomorrow. I believe it’s a 05196 model—badged Craftsman swivel base 4” vise. Got it for 30 bucks. Jaws look pretty decent so I hope it cleans up nicely.

It's interesting to note that the very first vise I ever restored is a Craftsman 5163, and it was also missing the center bolt for the swivel base. And it takes that exact 7/8-14 bolt with a brass bushing that I turned on my metal lathe. 1000001640.jpg
