Kennedy style has seen little or no change in many decades. Dating a Kennedy may be difficult without a serial number. I do not know if the Kennedy boxes were serial numbered.
Something else you should know. Not all Kennedy tool boxes were made by Kennedy. BEACH of Canada was a maker of machinist toolboxes for other companies like, Kennedy, SnapOn, MAC and Craftsman. The drawers, drawer dividers and divider clips are interchangable between the Beach, Craftsman and Kennedy. I know, because I have tried and they fit.
I have kept one Beach and one Craftsman machinist toolboxs and sold the more desirable Kennedys. It is not important to me to have a Kennedy in a brown colour I do not like.
I can get almost double for a Beach made toolbox with Kennedy livery.
Example: I found a Kennedy on CL listed for $40. I agreed to buy it. I left early for my Doctor's appointment and picked up the Kennedy. I relisted the Kennedy, with my Smart Phone and I got a call in minutes. The buyer met me at the Doctor's parking lot and paid $250. This is good money for an hour of my time.

You box was made before around 1950 which was when Kennedy switched to steel handles. The second half of the part number indicates the length of the box in inches. Here is mine along with a Kennedy flyer from 1940. Welcome to the GJ!

Picked this 1964 Kennedy military issue machinist tool box yesterday at a flea market. Complete with original data plate, it's in excellent shape. $30 and I took it home. Now, where or who has the inventory sheets so I can restock her?1000024488.jpg1000024492.jpg1000024490.jpg1000024489.jpg
