I seem to be at a point where I don't need any new tools for the first time I can recall.

I need to place an order for some supplies at JB Tool, about $40 worth, but my cheap self won't let me until I get the total up to $99 for the free shipping. I haven't seen anything I want to add for $60 that I don't already have or that I can really use or even want. Will look again tonight. It's a bit of a dilemma.

You don’t need any more tools? J C pull his man card. lol. Frankly I find myself in the same situation lately and am reluctant to add anything at all. How about something like their magnetic trays or mat. Treat yourself to some upgrade on a tool you already have. Cheers, Jim Don

I already got a bunch of mag trays. I shoulda said, under $60, or at the moment. I could use a newer scan tool, fuel line fab kit, digital torque wrenches, etc. but I just need to add another $60 to the order. Those other things aren't urgent.

You're looking for "stocking fillers" in a present to yourself 😂

I have a few go to consumable items I will add to baskets to get free shipping.

Wire brushes/Test Leads/Organizers/Screwdriver Bits/Funnels etc.

Most people would call that behavior “reasonable” or perhaps even “rational”.

On GJ…we call that “having a serious problem”.

I actually think I'm mostly in the same boat.
Sure, there are a few items I want or would make a future repair easier, but not sure if I actually "need" anything.

It's rare I need a new hand or power tool but what I'm finding as I age is I'm buying tools to make lifting and carrying easier. A pallet jack, hydraulic lift table, drywall dolly, etc. I'm willing to spend significant money to avoid using brute force.

I had the same issue the other day ordering a pair of duty boots for work. Spend a little more and get free shipping...I looked and found a decent price on Mechanix Wear gloves, bought 2 pairs for home and a small folding utility knife, see Ryan's thread on that subject.

Got my free shipping but because they had better prices than anyone else, total was only about $20 more than other sites.

Sometimes, you have to look around and get creative.

Dude….real men don’t EVER admit that they are tooled out, kitted up and welp…don’t need any more stuff….

Step one of your recovery is to post here that you failed. You posted while drunk and simply admit your mistake.

Step two is the ask the CG crowd for acceptance and mercy…good luck with this part.

Step three, go on numerous tool sites and **** post about all your upcoming projects and tool needs…ask for recommendations so as to appear sincere and in need of guidance.

Step four is to ask….no, tell…your wifey that everything is back to normal. Ask for permission to retrieve your balls from the mantel so you can use them again….in the shop.

OP, I will prey to the tool Gods and hope you are successfully rehabilitated.

JBTools has some great price on Meguiars Professional Line Detailing Supplies. Use it to get to the $99 threshold.

Who knows?
S.U.R.&R. sells two sizes of rubber cups that fit around your oil filter and prevent it dripping all over you and everything else...

They also sell an Oil Plug gasket and o-ring kit as well as a kit of copper crush washers for banjo bolts on your brake calipers. Annnnd they sell a 4 piece set of brake line stoppers to keep flyid from dripping on the ground while you are chamging out a soft line. JB Tools should sell all of those.

Not sure if it helps or not.

I'm having the same feeling as the OP but it took me 69 years and 11 months. I need to start thinking of the day to downsize my collection.

I think what OP is actually saying is that the cost for some of the items he WOULD buy is far too expensive vs. what he's used to paying... and so he's struggling to add anything else to his cart.

I recently drove across the boarder and visited Harbour Freight... i bought less than $40 worth of stuff because the prices were so much higher than what I would normally pay at Princess Auto in Canada, or from Aliexpress/Amazon, etc. - especially after the exchange rate. Years ago I could easily spend a thousand dollars there in one trip... but thats no longer the case due to the price vs value gap, in my mind.

Honestly, I'm getting to the point where I also kind of have everything, except very expensive things. When I'm in a similar order, needing to reach a free shipping threshold, I usually stock up on consumables but I've also started picking up metalworking consumables odd sizes of taps, dies, reamers, annular cutters, welding rods, mig tips, stuff like that.

I have whole categories of tools that I really can’t justify any more of.

I am not saying that I wouldn’t… I am saying they would have to be better than I already have and super cheap.

I have a stupid amount of Vise-grips, Channellocks, adjustable wrenches, extensions, files, punches, chisels… and probably a lot of categories that I can’t even think of right now…
